Hello,
My daughter carlotta was born at 30 +1 and weighed only 1lb 7, apparently she was the size of a 26 week old. She came out crying and was on cpap for one week, she finally came home just before her due date, she did well in hospital and was lucky that she didn't have any serious problems, she did have two blood transfusions and suffered a lot with bradys which we now know was due to bad reflux which she still suffers with. She is now 7 months old and weighs 12lb 9 and is a very smiley, happy baby. It was one of the hardest times of our lives, not knowing what would be, but we are now so lucky to have our baby home. My heart goes out to all of you.
hi
my son was born at 29weeks on 19/11/08. he weighed 3lb 3oz he was on a breathing machine for 3days at 2months olde he had to have a blood transfusion he came home on the 5/02/09 he weighs 11lb 2oz now.
My little boy was born at 34 wks which was a bit of a shock as my previous 2 had been late. Everything was so scary for the first few days especially with all the alarms and monitors. Just having him come off cpap felt like a major milestone and I didn't sleep for 2 days when they removed his apnea monitor from his incubator!
He is now a beautiful and healthy 8 month old. I think the hardest part was making time for my older 2 whilst Aidan was in hospital
i had my little girl at 35 weeks threw a c sectio n emergency she had her cord arounf her shoulder and legs she was 5lb so at went to specail care for 2 weeks had help to feed and keep warm but she got better and is now over 7lb she is 5 weeks and great if it was nt for staff at specail care york uk i would of fallen apart i lost twins at 26 weeks 8 yrs ago but they were too small weighing 1 pound each they cried at bearth but died staight away i have had too other boys one at 33 weeks who was in specail for 3 weeks and one at 40 weeks both ok now so all stay strong ad ure babys will be home soon x x x

Hi,
After IVF treatment and being extremely ill in intensive care due to it I had my gorgeous little girl, Sophia, at 28 week gestation. She weighed 2lb 2oz at her lowest and is now 5lb. She is still in SCBU and the staff are fantastic. It has been the most worrying time of my life. Looks like she'll be having her 2nd blood transfusion which is quite stressful. Can't wait to bring her home.

Hi everyone id just like to let you all know what me and my twins have been through so that anyone going through the same knows that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I didn't have an easy pregnancy for lots of reasons but mainly i developed mastitis which led to two absesses which i had an opeation to remove when i was 24 weeks. My twins were born at 28 weeks Amelia weighing 2lb14oz and James weighin 3lb6oz. James needed help breathing with sipap at first and was quite poorly but amelia seemed to be doing well. Amelia then got an infection in her bowels NEC and was on triple antibiotics for 10 days and she didnt have anyfood for nearly 2 weeks. the infection left a stricture in her bowels which was removed when she was just 8 weeks old. she is not 100% yet and we just have to wait and see whether she grows out of it or not she has laxatives twice a day so is finiding hard to put on weight and is 13lb at 7 months old. My son James in now 22lb and a right little bruiser he had alot of more minor infection and spent less time than amelia in hospital but still 64 days. However until they were 5 months old we never had 2 weeks were one of them wasn't in hospital. theyve not had to stay in hospital for nearly 2 months now and are starting to crawl and talk and love to put absolutely everything in their mounths. Everything we have been through has been 100% worth it and the best advice i can offer is that they have the best babysitters money can buy and i know thats not as good as their mums and dads but you have to allow yourself some time off to strengthen yourself for when they come home. your babies will need you to be stronger than ever when they come home so make some ttime to concentrate on yourself.

Hi id just like to say that ive been through something very similar and that it is amazing how much they can fight and how much they can get through without even knowing it. I had twins a boy and a girl at 28 weeks and they weighed 2lb14oz and 3lb6oz. I spent quite a bit of time in hospital during my pregnancy and had an operation when i was 24 weeks. My little girl amelia had 2 blood tranfusions too, was very poorly and had an operation when she was 8 weeks old and my son james had problems breathing. It is very scary and i have been through so much with them but you have to remember that they dont have a clue so they are not going through it like you are she is so young that nature is just pushing her to survive and she has done so well so far she will be fine. my two have had so many problems they were in for 64 days and 77 days but we didn't have 2 weeks without one of them having to go in to the childrens ward until they were 5 months onld but now they are both beautiful happy healthy babies who dont have a clue what they went through and are just enjoying themselves. You need to concentrate on getting yourself better for when she comes home at the moment she has the best babysitters nmoney can buy and although you will never stop worrying you have to allow yourself to get ready for when she comes hopme so that you can be strong for her then.
Hi,
I'm a first time expectant mum (26 wks+5 today) & I'm also a research psychologist very appropriately investigating postnatal wellbeing, postnatal depression and post traumatic stress disorder following birth. I work at the Univerisity of Sussex and I'm currently running an online study looking at women's memories of the birth experience, so if you fancy taking part please click on the link below or copy it into your browser.
http://139.184.162.156/memory_and_birth_study.htm
I've had approx 50 women participate so far & they have all said they enjoyed doing it & felt it was a great opportunity to put the events of the birth into perspective. I need approx another 450 women to take part, so please please please help me out. If you want to check out my research profile to confirm this is a legitimate study please either google me (search for Suzanne Foley, University of Sussex) or look me up on the University website:

Thank you!!!
Hi Kate
I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your daughter. My son, Ben was born at 24 weeks, and he died the day before he would have been 2 months old. I'm 12 weeks pregnant and petrified. I don't have a cervical structure, but I would appriciate any information you can give me as I have my first consultant appointment soon to discuss what's going to happen in this pregnancy. Congratulations on getting past the scary stage, my fingers are crossed for you, Lee xxx
Hi Lee, thanks for your message. I had a cervical suture fitted as the only reason they thought i had Charlotte so early could be an incompetent cervix, couldn't find any other reason. The suture is a stitch, like a purse string, that holds the cervix closed and therefore strengthens the cervix and keeps everything in place. Could they give you an expanation as to why Ben was born early? Its very hard isn't it and so scary for the next pregnancy. Let me know how you go on at your consultation - do you know when it is?
Good Luck, hope all goes ok. Kayte x
