Protein in the urine can be a sign of infection or pre-eclampsia. In your case it sounds like they are trying to establish whether or not you are developing pre-eclampsia. The kidneys act like a sieve filtering the waste products from the blood, that are then excreted in the urine (protein is not a waste product). As the blood pressure rises the 'holes' in the sieve dilate (become bigger) and allow protein molecules through. The 24hour lab test is used to see how much protein you excrete in 24hours. The result of this along with other tests that you will have had done (BP recordings, blood tests and antenatal checks etc) then help the doctors to diagnose wheter you have pre- eclampsia or not and then to plan your care accordingly. If your symptoms worsen then they may want to deliver your baby earlier and not allow you to go full term. Remember if you are unsure of anything or have any questions you must speak with your midwife / doctor and get them to fully explain things to you.

hi as far i as i know raised blood pressure accompanied by protein in your urine is a sign of pre eclamsia.(dont take my word for it) if it is i shouldnt worry too much your midwife will probably keep a closer eye on you and you should make sure that you have plenty of rest.
hope everythinks okay with you and your little one xx
