As you rightly say – every baby is different and although six months is quite early she may well be thinking about moving! The usual age for crawling is anywhere between 6 and 12 months but some babies never crawl and go straight from sitting up to standing and then walking. Others “bottom shuffle”, while others manage to move quite happily by rolling. However, most babies do crawl and yours will too as soon as she is ready. At the moment she is probably just experimenting with how much weight her little arms can take, what does the world look like if she lifts herself up and is it really worth moving about in?
You can encourage her by making sure she is dressed in clothes which give her freedom of movement and are soft around her knees, cotton dungarees are perfect. Unfortunately little dresses can be a problem as they get caught under knees and can cause a major mishap! Most babies sit up first and then go forward onto their hands to get into the position for crawling. As soon as she is strong enough to take her weight on her hands and knees she will do so and will then rock – almost as if she is waiting for you to say “go”! At this stage you can help by giving her goals to reach for – a toy just out of reach or a toy on a string that she can follow, but don’t force her before she is ready. She really will let you know when the time is right and then is the time to get fit as you chase her around the house!
My DD has been crawling since she was about 7 months. But like you say they all do it at different times. My friend's Lo will be 1 end of Oct and he is still not crawling. He shuffles and rolls at the mo and is getting around ok doing that so don't think he feels the need to crawl!
I wouldn't worry yet. You will probably turn around one day and find her following you! Just enjoy these days when you can put her down in one place and know she'll still be there when you turn around!! Lol ;O)

Wot age wud u say babys start crawlin, i no every babys different but ruffly wat wud u say, my daughters tryin 2 push her self up 2 crawl an shes nearly 6 months old.
