Hi,
Infacol needs to be used for about 3 weeks constantly for it to stzart working if it going to, it did n othing for my little boy. He was on hungry baby milk and I found that the colief helped a lot, you can get it on prescription, but they do not like to prescribe it but it is quite expensive about 10pounds? again baby massage helped a lot and he would trump away, ask you HV about baby massage and colic they should either help you by showing you the moves or have a help sheet.
Gripe water was good but when they are so small they do not take it very well and it is so sticky.
I founbd that my son spent most of his time when he was a small baby being burped and his back being constantly rubbed.
The problem is that when the crying is constant it feels that it has been happening for ever but it does ease.
2 of my 3 children had colic. I found that a soothing warm bath and a gentle tummy rub helped in the evening time. holding baby in a position they feel comfortable in (you will probably know which one your child likes already) and a calm, unstressed mum also helps baby to relax. I have found that as the baby digestive system strenghens with age, then the colic eases.
hi i've just started a baby massage class and there are technices in the class that realy help, using the flat of your palm stroke gently in a downwards motion from just below the ribs alternate hands and do this 6 times, then in a clockwise movement gently circle your palm over the belly this helps to felive the trapped wind, they advise you to use a light oil coconut oil if possible as off the shelf oils that have essential oils in them affect the baby's skin's ability to breath properly.
hope this helps!
Hi my son had colic, luckily only a couple of nights a week, i to tried infacol and colief but didn't find that they did much. After researching on the internet there were some theorys on colief one being about how much cows milk you were consuming (only if breast feeding) i found that since having my son i had increased eating yoghurts, cereal and cheese. So i cut back on those. Coincidence i'm not sure but within 2 weeks it got better and then just disappeared. I know it is really tough going, but he will grow out of it hopefully by 3 - 4 months old.
Aahh that sounds really tough for all of you.
Although my little fella didn't have colic he did suffer with some discomfort and trapped wind. We went to a chiropractor who specialised in babies and she sorted him out, this is different to the cranial osteopath, though I have heard that recommended too. I am sure anything is worth a try, have a ring around your local chiropractors and see if any of them offer this.
Hi
Are you breast or bottle feeding? If bottle try the doctor brown bottles from Boots, theyre expensive but so worth it. They take the air out.
The Infacol helped in the early days with my daughter, but she/we had all sorts of other probs too.
My HV also recommended the "Superman" pose. Colicy babies seem to like being held in the air in a sort of superman position, or along the arm. My daughter seemed very comfortable like that. It was as if she was doing that scene from Mission Impossible. She really did like being held up in the air! Really improved her neck mussles. (Which is another thing my HV said about colicy babies)
Also have the cot matress/basket propped slightly at the head end.
We also tried going to a cranial osteopath. We were really sceptic at first, but it did seem to do some good. However, it came about the same time as us finding out about my milk supply not being enough, and going half/half with formula/breastmilk.
It does seem to eventually go, but it doesn't half take a long time.
My baby boy is suffering quite badly with colic and we even spent the night in hospital last week because of it, have been trying infacol and now colief.....just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions or tips? thanks xx
