The average age for the first teeth to come through is usually closer to six -seven months when the two central teeth appear. However, eight months is also perfectly within the normal range, and in fact some children get to their first Birthday without teeth! There is often lots of dribble before teeth appear, and also babies do tend to chew on everything so maybe it won’t be long until you actually see them.
Teething should never make a baby ill, so if you are at all worried, check with your health visitor or Dr. You can try the following tips:
• Give something hard to bite on such as a teething ring cooled in the fridge, or a hard crust of bread or a hard teething biscuit.
• Use a soft clean muslin cloth to dry her mouth if she dribbles a lot so that the skin doesn’t get sore.
• Teething gels you can buy over the counter can be soothing.
• If you think she is getting distressed by the discomfort of teething, a paracetamol liquid can sometimes help, but always check carefully the dose recommended.
My daughter is nearly 8 months and is yet to get any teeth. However, they have been giving her trouble for ages. She is really dribbly, chomps on everything and is quite irritable at night.
Just recently though, she has been sick too. It is not a lot, a mouthful I'd say. But happens quite a few times during the day. Is this another sign of teething? Apart from that she is fine. happy and content. Not really off her food, filling nappies as usual.
Any ideas?
