Should we find out the sex...or not?!

OK..I've got my 20 week scan in 4 weeks time and we CANNOT make our minds up whether to find out the sex or not. It's our first baby, we'd like a boy first ideally (I liked having older brothers!) but obviously just want a heathly little bundle. Any recommendations from anyone? Two people I've spoken to who did find out say they regret doing it now. Is the 'it's boy!' or 'it's a girl!' moment worth the wait?! x

Well we did find out! A boy, so pleased! We won't find out with the next, i think we just both felt this was a boy and got attached to the bump as a boy so thought we'd better find out in case it was a girl to give us time to get used to it. Still a chance it could be a girl but we definatly saw something in between it's legs! 25 weeks now and glad we can bond with the bump as a person :) xx

hiya, i didnt find out the sex with my first baby (now 3 yrs). It was a lovely suprise to find out if it was a boy or girl after the birth (it was a girl). I would say have a suprise with your first, i'm now pregnant again and going to find out this time!!! cant wait :o)

I don't care what I have but I do always find out as we have bets on it an the money goes to charity..I find out as I hate havin my baby all dressed in white for the first few months so borin..I can understand if for example the baby is a girl an the father wants a boy ( i wont go into details but am sure youv'e all read the stories). Luckily my fella and I don't care if it's pink or blue ...In norfolk we get 2 scans..a dating scan at between 8 an 12 weeks then another anomaly scan at 20+ weeks...it is not always possible to see as we found out with our 2nd daughter she wouldn't let the radiographer get a pic.... I had thought i was havin a boy all the way thro..she had no girls name and no girls clothes..she would have gone home in boys clothes if my mother in law hadn't stepped in lol..it is personal choice and i do kno sum hosps wont check as it takes time to find out.( but then thats hosps all ova lol) good luck with yr choice..I am 14 so hoping to find out sex of ours at 20 weeks x

personally I didn't get a choice- my hospital had a policy against telling you the sex something to do with ethics. I'm glad we didn't find out- it was so exciting when lily's daddy lifted her little leg and announced we either had a little girl or a son who would picked on SOOO bad in the boy's locker room lol. I also happen to think that if you have a strong preference about having a girl or a boy in your case I wouldn't find out. If they tell you you are having a boy and turn out to be wrong you'll be SO disapointed. That's my view anyway. good luck with the scan, it's magical when they get to 20 weeks and start looking like a proper baby. x x

i found out the sex of my son at our 20wk scan and im not sure if i regret it or not to be honest!! We have decided not to find out the sex of this baby as i think the suprise after all that hard work is nice and being able to tell everyone would be nice but then everyone is different i'll prob cave in and find out the sex of this one too!!!! xxx

i think you should leave it as a surprise. i was in the same situation wen i had my 20 week scan my partner wanted 2 find out what we were having but i didnt(am now 33 wks). plus i know that if i knew what i was having i would end up spending far to much buying things that i realy didnt need n would then end up with too much. so evryfin ive bought is a neutral colour n ive gt just enuf 2 last me for the first 10/14 days then i can go out n buy coloured things.

This is so weird, we are both 19 weeks and we have also picked Jack as our boys name and have been calling our bump Jack.

I got my tarot cards read in March before i was pregnant and the lady said that i would be pregnant soon and that it would be a boy. I know i shouldn't, but when i was in America with work I bought loads of little boys clothes!!

We are booked to have a 4D scan on the 4th Dec and we are going to find out what we are having then. If it's a girl I will still be happy will just mean i will need to sell all the little boys clothes i bought!!

Haha, my hubby is too :) - he says he doesn't mind but would love a boy first. This is whay I'm thinking it might be nice to find out in case it's girl and it gives us time to get used it. We keep calling the bump Jack (our boy name) but I'm trying not to!! Nobody's put on here that they regret finding out so I'm starting to think maybe we should... I'm so indecisive!! Whoops!
