On the news yesterday they were saying theres going to be a measles epidemic this winter because so many children have not been vaccinated/only part vaccinated. I have rung my health visitor but only got to leave a message. Never got called back. Has anyone spoken to their health visitor yet about it? I don't know if I need to do anything, like get my daughter vaccinated. She is 6 1/2 months old so oviously hasn't had and measles jabs yet.

The MMR is usually given at 13 months so you won't be offered it yet. please do get it done though, like prozacfairy said there are too many parents putting there own and other peoples children at very serious risk, the diseases are far worse than the jab. my 4 year old daughter had to have her pre-school booster recently and i felt awful having to explain to her that the lady was going to use a needle and i would be there letting her! but explained that it only hurts for a minute and it is so much better than getting 'nasty bugs' that could make her very poorly for along time! obviously you can't explain to your child yet but some adults just aren't getting the same message and feed into this irresponsible scare mongering from the media the General Medical Council warned us years ago that this outbreak would happen because people weren't getting their children vaccinated then. just hope they get the point soon and start behaving a bit more responsibly, there are enough nasty things out there that we can't protect our children from, surely we should be doing what we can to protect them from what we can fight against!?

I've heard the same thing bout my area. people have GOT to get their kids protected, not to mention stopping the spread to other children not yet vaccinated. I don't understand why they don't. lily booked in for her jab in 2 weeks I have no doubts I'm doing the right thing for her. Maybe your health visitor has had a day off or something. They don't seem to vaccinate babies against it when they are as young as yours, don't know why.
