ok- this is my 6th pregnancy and just as well its not my first; i feel that i need to have a rant over this more than anything else as right now im pretty hacked off. We all understand how hard midwives etc work and how there seems to be a growing lack of them in the UK; however my current situation is leaving me quite stressed. In general, the abnormally scan is offered between weeks 20-23 weeks of pregnancy (im 20 weeks this weekend) and this mid-term scan is usually offered via post about say 4 weeks before the actually day. So far i have had to ring; my local scna/x-ray departement twice, the midwives are supposed to write up a card with your details on it and send it down to the scanning depo before thy can offer an appointment that should arrive by post. Now for almost 4 weeks i have rung my local offices for the midwives team 3-4 times, my own community midwife hasnt booked in the scan, and since asking her to return my calls she is asking the impossible by asking me to ring her between 8.30-9am preferably on a tuesday( its the only day shes in my drs clinci).. now like i said, this is my 6th pregnancy and i cannopt ring her at that time in the morning when i have older children i need to take to school- there is no way on gods earth i can get back for that time.. secondly when she did ring me she didnt have any idea how many weeks i was as she didnt have my records/notes in front of her and so didnt know which scan i was trying to follow up (this was all on the answering machine message she left)..since then i have lost count of how many times i have rung the main office trying to get someone to sort it out- each time thy have told me that someone would either ring or sort it out and there is still nothing with my name on it down at the scanning department. Today i rang that main office again and got the usual ; "we'll ring you back this morning" and still thy have not returned my call, so then this afternoon i have rung the hospital to speak to the midwives there, the one was quite helpful and rung me back about 1 min later saying the midwife on call would ring me shortly.. it is now nearing the afternoon and i am still waiting for that call,, this is dam ridiculous!! Just in case anyone wants this for future reference; you should be offered a scan BEFORE you reach 24 weeks of pregnancy- it is an abnormally scan- if there was anything wrong with the baby and a woman decided that she didnt want to continue the pregnancy (i wouldnt care either way what happens - its the princapal that my maternity rights are being taken away)- by law a woman can only chose to terminate a pregnany up untill something like 24-26 weeks, that is why the scan has to be done between 20-23 weeks of pregnancy; like i said, this isnt the issue, the issue is that my antenatal care is not being met and by not sorting out this scan they are refusing me my legal rights throughout the pregnancy. As i mentioned above- its a good job its not my first as i wouldnt have a clue what to expect and how to deal with it.. im so furious right now i feel like pulling my hair out!! ok-.. : ) rant over.. i think! x

oh i know how you feel! i am about to have no 4 and can't stand my community midwife!! in fact have fallen out with her so bad that when i have my baby and they try and come to the house i am refusing to let her in!! i have told the hospital this too and they are trying to organise a midwife from there or i will take baby to gp surgery every day if i have to but that witch is coming no where near me again! I was supposed to have an appointment with her on 10th july but had to cancel as i had appt at hospital to meet my consultant same day, she asked if i wanted to arrange it but i said i wasn't sure and would ring back another day to confirm, i have never rang her back and she hasn't rang me- i haven't seen her since May and she has not tried to contact me at all! I have spd and rang at 7months almost in tears because i couldn't walk- she asked if i was having the baby at their hospital (the one they do deliveries for) and when i said no (i'm going to one a bit further away but under same trust) she could not have been more unhelpful- she told me i would have to self refer to local community hospital, pay for mu own pelvic brace but by the time i got one i would have had the baby anyway! when i told the midwife at hospital she was fuming- not only because nothing she said to me was true but the way she treated me was appalling! i have since moved all my care to the hospital. Is there another hospital nearby where you can go instead? midwives know- but don't tell you- that you have the right to have your baby in whichever hospital you want! that is why my midwife doesn't like me she can't tell me just anything and have me 'buy it' coz i ask questions and correct her when i know she is wrong!
