Baby Naming - alternative to christening

Hi all! Does anyone know of/ or had a baby naming ceremony? We don't want to get our baby christened but I liked having god-parents as a child. Just wondering if there's any similar but non-religious? xx

i didnt actually get that far with my 2older children but did look into it. theres an associtation called the humanist society. they will do most services that a church would do but non religous. from what i can make out they would come to your house for the service if you wish. you choose who you want as godparents and their friendship to you is blessed too.

Ooo i was thinking about this but never put much thought into it, I just thought id have a party to celebrate her being born but i like the idea of having a proper formal gathering and something at a registry office. Im not religious either so thought it would be a bit fake to have my daughter christened, but still didnt want her to miss out on a fancy do! I think a naming ceremony is a brilliant idea x x x

The naming ceremony i went to was in a registrary office. You dont have "god-parents" you have "guiding parents". there is nothing religious about the ceremony at all. obviously prezzies and a party after. you can have a small or big do, depending on where you have it.

I'm having a naming ceremony for my children as my partner doesnt want a christening but i do. so we've agreed on a naming ceremony.
it's that big now that clinton cards do invitations and cards with naming ceremony on them!
