My first daughter who is now 4 is a really fussy eater. She will only eat pasta, rice, bread, raw carrot and pizza. I've seen my HV about her and they are happy that she's thriving well. But I'm now concerned my 1 year old is going the same way. She weaned really easy and loved all her purees but since I've started on lumpier foods she not interested. She will only eat finger foods apart from fromage frais and fruit purees. Help!!!!! I feel I must be doing something wrong :(
I'm also having feeding probs with the lumps in food, but one thing i find really works, which is quite bizarre, is if she starts to make a gagging face, I make a distracting noise, such as tapping my fingers on the window, or singing a loud song, or rattling a toy and she suddenly forgets she was gagging and continues to chew nicely! Its not how I pictured feeding my daughter, but I have to resort to all kinds of tactics to get food in! xx
my daughter is a year old and she eats what we have as finger food tonight we had a beef roast yeah she made a messs with the gravy but its all part of learning.
my daughter ate purees until she was 6 months(we started weaning at 4 months) since then she has had finger food even mash!!we given her a spoon which she makes a mess with but she will get used to feeding herself with it.
i have a 5 year old that is a real fussy eater and i think thats because of the way i weaned him he was weaned at 6 months and only had blended/ mash food until he was about a year but now my son is trying different food because his little sister so its help he started eating a few carrots and peas in the evening now . xx
Thanks for your reply. She is very independent and hates me feeding her so I have been doing the same as you giving her finger foods she can feed herself and she has a spoon and tries with that.
I was the same as you with my first. She only had blended foods til she was a year old because she used to gag on anything else and I was to frightened to keep trying. I'm determined not to go down the same route again!!!
I'm just looking forward to the day they will both sit down to a proper meal!!

its so hard isnt it, my son is 20 months and hes really stressing me out, I keep trying different foods with him but most of it ends up in the bin. I get so upset when people go on about what a wonderful eater their child is one even rubbed in today how thei child has never had a cold and they think its because they eat all their fruit and veg i could have slapped her!
im sure your not doing anything wrong. do you think your youngest is teething? with the lumpier food, just gradually go from puree to lumpy, maybe some of the food is too big for her to cope with. perservere she will get it eventually good luck
I worry that she is going to copy her big sister. Though she actually eats her sisters food. Her big sister had a slice of birthday cake and she stole it from her plate and ate the lot!! She has 6 teeth. 4 on the top and 2 on the bottom and although I can't see anymore coming through she is chewing her fingers alot so perhaps she is teething.
I think I'm just worrying because her big sister eats so poorly and I don't want to go down the same route again. I'm trying my best though and always offering her different things. Thanks for replying.
