I had my lo 5 months ago in hospital. If ever I am lucky enough to have more babies, I will def opt for a home birth. Other than a couple of minor hiccups, it went very smoothly, and really, I needn't have been in hospital at all. My MW and health visitor were actively encouraging me after I'd had her, advising me I'd be a good candidate and such. If you have the chance, do it!!! xxx

I had a homebirth with my first baby (low risk), was adamant not to go to hospital as I wasn't sick, it's a normal yet painful process.
I did ALOT of research, thank God for google! Apparently only 2.5% of the UK have homebirths now, whereas in 1959 it was 34%..I read an article that said the less people have them, the less the service for it will be provided by NHS etc, they said that if it gets to 5%, then this will help future women have a better experience and more experienced midwives etc and the infrastructure to deal with it. Interesting fact!
My husband was worried about the idea, but because I was confident (stubborn) with the idea, it gave him more confidence in it & supported me in it. I think he would have be swayed by the midwife if she was concerned though. Thankfully she was supportive, although a little wary, as they sometimes are...
If you had uncomplicated previous births then you should be fine, ask your midwife for her advice in that.
I loved the fact that I was at home! I could have a shower in my bathroom, and get into my bed, with theo all snuggled up with my hubby too. It was a really special time, much better than him being rushed off til visitor time etc.
I had 1 midwife throughout, with 2 at the end bit, which is great for extra support, you really feel special, like a private clinic treatment, depending on the midwife of course!
Saying that, I called the hospital to send a midwife, and they said they were all busy, so I'd have to come in. I'd had a birth pool filled and ready to use, I said I'm not coming in, as there is no guarantee i'd get the birth pool at the hospital & I want it at home! They said they'd call back in 15 mins. They did and they said there was one midwife who could do it, she was the Area Head Midwife for West midlands! Fab!
1.Go with your gut and your midwife's advice! 2.Being near a hospital a good thing 2 just in case! 3.Use a bath instead of a pool!wasn't deep enuff for buoyancy! 4. Do your research and be wise!

I had my last baby at home, first 2 in hospital. Home birth was lovely, so relaxed and lovely to have a bath at home afterwards. My hubby was against it - I think because he was scared, but afterwards told everyone how wonderful it was and has since tried to convince many a pregnant woman to give it a go! I'm now expecting our 4th and if all goes well I'd like to have this one t home.

I've had both my children at home and I loved it. Ability to wander around your own house and garden both before and after is brilliant (probably should have let the neighbour know in advance though). We had a pool which was great(not for everyone i know). My partner is extremely supportive and that is really important to know they can cope and clean up a bit after! I had 1 midwife present for most of my labour with number 2 (partner had tonisilis and was a bit out of it) she asked if I needed her to stay and when I said yes she called the reinforcements to cover her other appointments....she was excellent! Another midwife arrived for the birth (2 present 1 for mum and 1 for babe).
I hired a Tens machine for pain relief but be advised that there is limited pain relief options: you can have gas and air though. The best thing for me was being a family immediately in our home....no sending away dad no visiting limitations.
You do need the ok from midwife and depending on the area this is sometimes encouraged more than others. They can be funny about first babies but if you want it then go for it! I had some stiches with number one and the midwife did those with help from an appropriately placed angle poise lamp!

it should really have any affect on being accepted for a homebirth hun so long as should you need to be rushed of to hospital paramedics can get into your home and get you out safely and so long as the room you plan to give birth in has enough space for you 1-2birthing partners and 2 midwifes if you speak to your midwife about it she should be able to give you some leaflets with information on them also there are loads of homebirth information sites online hope this helps
cool thanks im seeing her on friday so i will ask her for some info and hopefully convince hubby too x

I think it must vary according to area-I was told that if i needed stitches i would have to go into hospital-luckily they were happy to leave small tears to heal naturally x

My oh agreed after hearing my sisters experiance (she had her baby yesterday) and he wants me to be comfy and relaxed ...my house is undertaking some diy but i have a front room the children used as a tv room thats not touched by diy so can always be prepare for the birth xx
i'm doing it in my livingroom again i found its the closest room to the front door which really came in handy with how quick corey arrived dont worry about any stiches should you need them the midwife will do them for you she brings everything you need before the birth and also when she arrives although you only get 2 choices of pain relief pethadine or gas and air.
