I love the idea of calling my baby Dorina because I would love to call my daughter after my mum (and her mum too) but I'm not sure I like it. It's nice because it's unusual but not sure if my child would get picked on with a name like that.
I really dont think she would get picked on, whats to pick on? it is a girls name and sounds like a girls name, unlike naming your child 'beaver' or something ludicrous, they probably would get picked on named something non-name related.
In my sons class at school there are so many different names that she would just blend in. They have the normal classic names like, joshua, daniel, lucy but then some more unique names like shanaya, angelie, zarina, kade. I named my son freddie max after my two grandads.
If you like the idea of honouring ur mum you could give ur baby two middle names, or play around with the name dorina to find something u are more comfortable with like 'dori' dora' 'orina' 'rina' 'doria' 'oria' there are lots of possiblities-or make up a new name using the letters of 'dorina'?? GL xxxx

I'd use it as a middle name if I liked it-but it's not up to your mum what your baby is called. I have never heard of the name at all so wouldn't call it old fashioned just unusual-we have a little Dora at playgroup! Dorothy is coming back and Dotty so why not Dorina?
Hi,
I think that older names are just as effective but you need t like them yourself. I knew someone who named their child Marmaduke after the dog!! that was cruel for the child due to bullies at school, you hve to concider how the child will cope with the name. I personally like older names for girls such as Helena, Marlena (after Frankie Valli) and love the name April however you can make some names more modern like April can be changed into the French term Avril which is just as effective and quirky but a little more adventurous.
Good luck.

A bit weird that she is pushing for this, as in the end its your choice what you name your child. If you like it use it, if not dont!! I agree that the middle name might be an option but you still need to want to call your baby Dorina. I quite like it its unusual - are there any other versions out there other than Donna that you like? Its a very personal choice and I havent told anyone our chosen names as you will always have people disliking your choice. xx
i have got to say am not keen on that nameand i but now that your daughter would get picked on, just becase your brother did that dont mean you hve to hun just remember you name your childrn huni and thats where middle names come in. my son is called wesley tyrone not ralted to any family just his dad liked that name, my 22 month old is called sharla jade beverley carole may, jade after my cousin, beverley after my OHs mum, carole after my nan who was like my mum and my afte my great nan that washer middle name an mine, then harrietta eleni freya may. i just liked them names but i want to add may to girls as middle name. if i was you i would add them as a middle name somthing new and somthng old when i researched names i read to put either a modern name then old fashioned name secon or old fashioned then modern name as then your child can chose later what they would like to be called as well as put the full version then they can shorten i later, so harrietta we call harrie or harry.
My OH and I have been discussing names. My brother called his son after my dad (Charlie), quite a popular name at the moment. Since then my mum has been desperate (if I have a girl) for me to call the baby after her. Her name is Dorina (pronounced Doreena); but I think it's a really old fashioned name.I like more quirky modern names. My OH really likes it though. What do you guys think?
If I was going to use Dorina as a name, I thought of combining it with my OH's mum's name making it 'Dorina-Marie'. Thoughts??
