Top tips for travelling with a baby
Traveling with a baby can be daunting but don’t forget that your baby is extremely adaptable.
You might even learn to love traveling with one so small, as your baby is very portable at this young age! It’s toddlers who present more challenges, as they can walk (read: escape) and won’t make for a very restful vacation! Here are some top tips for traveling with your baby…
• Try to plan flights or long drives for the times your baby normally sleeps. If she has a good stretch in the afternoon (or night) plan this into your journey. Make this a requisite part of booking your flight.
• Take a baby sleeping bag on board the airplane so your baby feels comforted and has a sleep association with her.
• Nurse or bottlefeed your baby during take off and descent, as this will reduce the unpleasant sensation in her ears as the pressure fluctuates.
• Check whether your baby’s usual formula milk is available at your destination, so you can take enough with you if not.
• If you’re vacationing in a hot climate, ensure you offer your baby enough water – and be careful about the source. Boil all drinking water and allow it to cool sufficiently before giving it to you baby.
• Don’t give your baby food cooked by street vendors – hygiene could be wanting.
• Bring toys and books for the journey and bite-sized snacks if your baby is weaned, to stave off any hunger pangs.
• Find out whether the place you’re staying in has a washer and if so, pack lightly.
