The origins of your baby's name
The definition of origin is where something ‘begins’ or ‘comes from’. It can be useful to know where a name originates from, as it provides you with that extra bit of information about what you’re going to call your new addition.
If you and your partner are from different cultural or religious backgrounds, you might want to choose a name that suits both of you by searching for a name from each origin and combining them. Maybe you have fond memories of a country you visited when you were a child and would like to choose a name from this special place, or perhaps there’s a particular language you love – like French or Italian – and you’d like to choose a name from that country. Whatever the reason, you can find inspiration in our baby namer – there really is something to suit everyone.
