Victimisation @ work due to pregnancyCreated By babytoogood on 04 June 2008

Hi I have recently found out that I am expecting my first child. I am around 5 weeks pregnant. Because of the job that I am in (Courts/Prisoners) I have had to tell my employers early. They have conducted a risk assessment at my work place and found it a risky place to work, the alternative that they have offered is deemed 'safe' but I totally disagree, it is filthy dirty, full of flees/flies, too small, no rest room and generally really bogging! So much so that a member of staff is on Anti-b

I have also had a nightmare with work I was off work for a 8 week I was ment to be having my womb removed and the day of the pre admission they realised I was preg I was over the moon as they told me I cud not have a child, I was 5 week I had to tell my boss and the hospital told me to stay on the sick till I was 12 week which is next week I give work a sick note but yet they wanted my medical records I told them no they have cut my hours to also told me I can't go to anti appointment to make them in my own time they have been calling me. Coming to my house I feel like I am be bullied my female boss has been funny with me saying all kinds of things they are being very difficult like they want me to leave they have taken me off my normal role which was customer compliant and gave it to someone else and kind of made me the office junior joke
As a rule employers cant sack women who are pregnant. They are not allowed to give you job up either when ur on maternity leave. And you are allowed to have anti appointments booked during working hours so u need to get them done. :) i dont know if my post is too late to this but i wanted to reply anyways.

Might be worth you calling Citizens Advice and asking them, it will all depend on your contract and hours, but they are really good, they gave me very sound advice as I found out I was pregnant whilst I was still in a probation period and was worried about letting work know about my pregnancy in case they got rid of me. Whats saddest of all to me is that my immediate male boss has been really supportive and yet his female boss seems to be making every effort to apply additional pressure within my job and silly targets - feels like constructive dismissal - I was sorry to hear it is a female suggesting a cut off in your hours too, has she got children - does she appreciate you need every penny and will remain committed - all you want is a few more breaks? Hope you get it all sorted out, but do give Citizens Advice a call they were great. :)
