Any help or advice for other mum's with permature babies. My son was 7 weeks early. He was completly fine just a bit small. But I don't know when to start him on solids? or when he might hold a toy? ect. Would like to share advice & infomation with anyone else in the same boat.

My son alfie was born at 34 weeks he weighed 4lb 13. i was really scared when my waters broke we were very lucky that i was in hospital 3 days before he was born having my striod injections and them deciding to send me home or not. i was shown around scbu and the nurses were fantastic so i had some idea what to expect when he arrived but we didn't know how much treatment he would need. we were very very lucky that he just needed to put on weight and get a bit older before he left hospital he did get jaundice and had treatment for that but from the moment he was born he made up his own rules he was in there for 13 days i hated leaving him in hospital and cried for 2 days solid even though i was up the hospital for 12 hours a day. he is now nearly 10 months old now and nearly walking i've never treated him like a prem baby and people can't believe he was prem by looking at him now. the health visitors say that you should wait until they should be there actual age before weaning etc but my little man just can't wait for anyting. even to be born!!! every baby is different and will grow and need things at different times to others and that includes speical little bundles like ours

Hi

My little girl Charlotte was 5 weeks early and only weighed 2lb 9oz when she was born in April 2007. She spent 4 weeks in SCBU until she had put some weight on and the staff were great. She went on to solids as normal at 6 months and has developed into a normal toddler - picks things up really quickly, throws tantrums etc. Just take it a day at a time and you will be fine.

Hello Jillian being in scbu is a real rollercoaster ride. My daughter izzy was born at 28weeks weighing 1lb12oz, everything happened so quickley and I was lucky to be sent to a supportive hospital. After 99 days in special care she came home- and we've not looked back. Yes it was scary but the nurses helped us to prepare for izzy's homecoming. She's now 35weeks old and she's perfect she took to food early at 4months (real age)and community nurses helped with advice on giving her milk mixed with baby rice which she loves. She loves to coo and kick her feet! Good luck with your little one x

Hi, after reading some of the stories on this page I sont feel I belong in this group! My second baby (boy called Dale Adam) was born 5 weeks premature but he was a very healthy 5lb 7oz and didnt need to go to neo natal unit. We were discharged from hospital after 4 days. He is now nearly 8 weeks old and is doing great, started smiling last week and now weighs 8lb 11oz! We still having trouble getting a feeding routine sorted and he is feeding every 3 hours if im lucky! Keep forgetting he should only be couple weeks old

Hello
My son Charlie was born at 32 weeks as I had Pre-Eclampsia. He weighed only 3lb. He is well in himself but weight gain has been slow. For the last 3 weeks he has decided not to drink his milk anymore, taking just 2 oz about 4 or 5 times a day. There is nothing medically wrong with him and he is happy but I am worried about his poor intake. He is 25 weeks today (corrected age 17weeks) so I have decided to try him on solids as the doctor said this would be ok from 6 months even though his real age is 4months.
