My son had very severe reflux and would vomit countless times a day. After a trip to A and E he was diagnosed with indegestion and reflux. He too was given Gaviscon, this did not stop the vomitting, however stopped him crying in pain from the acid burn. He was also prescribed domperidome and another oral solution. After a couple of months i stopped all his medication as it made no improvement.
I found that experimenting with his milk worked best. There are two milks for babies with reflux, SMA Stay Down and Cow and Gate Comfort. They can be hard to find, Large Boots stores normally have them. This proved more effective than the medicaion.
At 4 1/2 months i put my son on the hungrier baby formula, and what a difference that made. Once weaned onto solid food it virtually stopped. Now all we have is off days depending on what new foods i've tried him on.
hi my baby girl has reflux, she is now 1 yr old and i give her Omeprazole, it does help, she is starting to refuse to take it though.

I am so grateful to everyone for sharing your experiences and giving your support thankyou x I have since gone back to the doc, as his weight gain is getting to be a concern. He thinks baby has a milk intollerence so he has prescribed some baby milk to try. Pick it up tomorrow from the chemist so we'll give it a go. Just a shame that he going to have to stop being breast fed but need to do what best for him. Thanks again x

gaviscon works for some like my lil one it worked wonders for stopped him being sick as much but he was still in a lot of pain with the acid we changed his milk to enfamil ar (acid reflux) which helped with the vomiting but nothing else he was prescribed ranitidine which works wonders with the acid pain he no longer really gets unless he has out grown his meds the best thing to do is what i did keep going back to your docs until you are happy that your lo is no longer in pain and you are happy that things are ok with lo they will outgrow it but most meds are weight sensitive and not all work for everyone its trial and error with them all and the individual baby

Hi i have a 9 week old little boy who also has been given gaviscon and it's not working so well. He also choking on his sick now too not sure what else can be done!
Hi I dont think the gaviscon is ment to stop the milk coming back up but is given to take the acid so thet he is not in pain.It is very worrying when they choke on thier sick my little girl did it twice .Does he seem to be in pain with his reflux and is he gaining weight well,my little girl is not sick but acid travels up and down her gullet .They do grow out of this normally but I know how hard it is looking after a baby with reflux

Hi my little girl has a silent reflux. She has struggled to gain weight after being born on due date at 9lb 14oz( she weighs 12lb 6oz at 4 months) .She is total breastfeed and is very difficult to feed .She had very slimmy green poos so the breast feeding specialist thought it was some type of intolerence so I cut out dairy and gluten this made her a slightly happier baby .The thing that has helped the most has been losec pescribed by the ped we tryed ranitadine and gav put this did not help. She is on losec and is much improved although still hard to feed. Poos are normal and I have started back on a normal diet so it looks like reflux was the only problem. She is my third baby and my other two had the same problem they are 10 and 8 so I know that things get better but it is so sad when your baby is crying all the time and you cant comfort her .
