I also had my son about 2 weeks ago, I had a home waterbirth and only used the birthing pool and gas&air. I had contractions for about 4 hrs before the midwife arrived and used a spacehopper (couldn't get hold of a birth ball) to rock on and slow breathing techniques, When the midwife arrived she set up the gas&air, which at first I didn't like, but once the pushing stage started it was a godsend, would recommend the water as as soon as I got into the pool the contractions were way less noticeable and was still able to use gas&air. all in all my labour was 8 1/2 hrs, with 3 1/2 hrs of pushing out a healthy baby boy weighing in at 8lb 15oz. I delivered the placenta naturally about 40 minutes later and the cord was cut after this. The midwives both said it was a very good birth especially so as it was my first. I did get a couple of tears and had a lot of back pain as he was facing front rather than back, but I didn't need any stitches and just over two weeks later I feel great and have little to no bleeding with the after-pains ending after about a week and a half.
The day of the birth I didn't do much other than look at him and cuddles with him and hubby but the following day we went out for a walk and the day after we went out food shopping.
Would recommend a home waterbirth to anyone. x x
