Phil & Teds Traveller travel cot

In a Nutshell
This is essentially a tent, specifically for keeping little ones safe, and is equally at home indoors or out. It comes with a blow-up mattress and the whole thing packs down into a bag small enough to bung in an overhead locker of a plane.

Features
The Traveller is a pole-and-canvas design, with a dedicated pouch into which you slide the mattress. It also has mesh panels on all sides, including the roof, which is removable with zips.

Practicality
Campers will find its set-up a doddle, but many parents will weep at the sight of those poles after a long journey It’s robust enough and – unlike some rivals – is suitably tricky to open from inside.

Wow Factor
Nobody will be expecting you to jog along with a travel cot slung over your shoulder, but this is eminently plausible given the Traveller’s size and weight – 4.2kg, including the mattress.

Nit-picking
This is not as tough as a rigid-sided travel cot and although internal length is standard cot size, it’s not as wide or tall. It all feels stable, yet it’s wise to deploy the supplied pegs if chilling on a windy day.
