Interiors: How to create a nautical theme Nautical-room-280

Be inspired by a new wave of nautical treats for your child's bedroom says Eleonore Crompton. It might even help them drift off to sleep

Your little one might be too young for a life on the ocean wave, but the lure of a bed that thinks it's a pirate ship – or even one tucked into a boathouse-style cabin – should persuade them that bedtime can be fun. Just add a nautical-style nightlight to help them safely sail away to dreamland. Whether you choose classic blue and white with bright accents or go for soothing, sun-bleached blues and yellows, it can be easily adapted as your kids go from cot to sailor's bunk. Just add sailing prints and wooden boats, then let them display their beachcombed finds.
