Days out for the family this March/April

There's all sorts of magical fun to be had this March and April, says Nifa McLaughlin, from secret Easter trails promising hidden chocolate to the charm of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake

The Velveteen Rabbit

The Velveteen Rabbit is one of the US's most popular children's books. And now it's been adapted for the stage
for families to enjoy. If you don't know the story, it's an enchanting tale of friendship, transformation, growing up and of course childhood toys. Catch it at the Unicorn Theatre, London from 28 March to 26 April.

Little Kingdom live

If you have pre-schoolers in the house, then look out for Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom live show. It's packed full of songs, games and laughter, Ben Elf and Princess Holly are helping ladybird Gaston clean up his messy cave, and watching Nanny Plum cause more jelly disasters in the magical kingdom. 26 March-6 September.

The Brighton Chicken Run

Dress up as a chicken for the Brighton Chicken Run on 29th March. Planned for this year, there is a 5km run for adults and a 1 mile run or 500m dash for kids. Families with buggies in tow can join in, and you will even get your very own Easter egg for taking part. The Chicken Run will take place in Hove Park on Sunday 29th March.

Bewilderwood adventure park

Head to BeWILDerwood adventure park in Norfolk to find your inner child... or just take your actual children who will enjoy following the Bunny Trail, making bunny ears and a tail, and listening to the story of The Pesky Bunnies at BeWilderwood. Children can meet Cedric the Easter Bunny or The Great White Rabbit of Spring. 28 March-12 April.

Family rave

If you can't quite let go of your old partying days now you've got children, dig out your raving gear and head to a family rave. Taking place in various nightclubs in London, they have big name DJs, fancy dress themes, craft activities, face-painting, bubble machines, storytelling and loads of freebies. Find out about the next event here.

Emergency Story Penguin

This interactive adventure and installation for little ones incorporates puppetry, video and music. They'll love the submarine powered by song, and trying to save a penguin stranded in antarctica. An adventure for young audiences. Touring to Runcorn, Liverpool, Doncaster and London in March and April.
