half term ski fun

Lisa Pinto braved the slopes and went skiing with pre-schoolers and... loved it!

A ski holiday with two pre-schoolers...hell on earth right? Actually – not necessarily! We have just been to Les Gets with Ski Famille and not only have we enjoyed some of our best ever skiing as they’ve had loads of snow this season, but I have actually come back rested and sane with two children that had the time of their lives. The answer – a ski company that includes flexible, quality childcare as part of the holiday. We travelled with Ski Famille on the recommendation of friends. Ski Famille offers inclusive (British) childcare in your chalet 5 days a week with a programme of activities for the children that includes sledging, ice skating, painting and loads more.

Our chalet was gorgeous - with a fully equipped playroom and a hot tub!  Our nanny (Robyn) was a star. She immediately made friends with the children and showed them round the playroom and had them excited about what they could do the next day. Our eldest was due to go to ski school each morning and she assured us all we had to do was get him dressed and she would be there at 8.30 to take him to the meeting point whilst another nanny took care of the baby until she returned. We got the children sorted in the morning and were then able to go off together and enjoy some amazing skiing and a spot of lunch every day before coming back to two happy children. Robyn entertained them so well – mixing just the right amount of indoor and outdoor time for their ages. We also ate like kings – children’s tea at 5pm meant we could sort baths etc before adult dinner at 8. And wow – what amazing food…and wine! Our lovely chalet hosts didn’t let me lift a cup or plate all week- absolute bliss.

TOP TIPS FOR A HAPPY SKI HOLIDAY WITH YOUNG KIDS

•    Choose a specialist family ski company that offer in-chalet childcare and fully equipped child- friendly properties – ours had stair gates, toys and even an entire week’s supply of nappies!
•    Pre-book your ski equipment – it’s often slightly cheaper and saves hassle on arrival – you just need pick it up and check the fit.
•    Check distances from lifts and amenities -we were an easy 5 minute walk from the main lifts and all the restaurants.
•    Make sure the pricing of your chosen operator is totally transparent if comparing prices – often the cheapest isn’t when you add in all the extras.

Prices for a 1 week stay (in a Select Chalet) including all childcare, breakfast, afternoon tea, 3 course dinner with cheese and kids tea, everyday, £895  per adult, and £780 per child.
