A cot is a very important piece of equipment for your baby, as you may use it for the first couple of years and as such, is worth investing in. Considering all that sleeping your baby will be doing (or that you hope he will be doing!), you are going to want the most comfortable cot that you can find. There are so many different types of cot on the market that it can be quite confusing trying to find the best product.

When your baby is still tiny, it is more likely that you will use a moses basket or carrycot that is suitable for night time, as newborns can seem too small to place in a big cot, even though you could do this, if you preferred to.  It is important to get it right when choosing your baby's first bed, so whether you've chosen a moses basket, cot or cot bed here are our top ten practical, yet comfortable range of baby beds.

I have a bad back so asked an expert how important a mattress was to our then new born baby. He said that yes a good mattress is important and more important than the cot. But at this age and up to 5 years (i think) he said that they're so supple that it is not worth worrying toooo much (a little worry was ok). Being paranoid about my daughters back as I have a bad back myself I asked him if I needed to buy a memory foam mattress like my own. He said no - it just wasn't needed. Mybe when they are older but for now a good mattress would suffice. We bought the top of the range Mothercare mattress and are very happy with it. However the mattress are all different sizes and the advice is to make sure it fits the cot to the recommended guide lines so that the gap is kept to a minimum. Indeed ny Mothercare mattress is a little on the small side for my Mothercare cot, so it's worth checking yourself in store with aa tape measure.
