A is for... AROMATHERAPY

Practised for thousands of years, the awakening scent of citrus could be the kick-start you need to your day. For those suffering from morning sickness, even the smell of ginger tea has been shown to ease nausea.

B is for... BATHING

Hot water eases every aching muscle in your body, preparing you for a good night’s sleep. Just turn down your hot tap a little, making sure you don’t overheat.

C is for... CANDLES

A gentle flicker of a scented candle is sure to set the mood, ensuring you’re calm and relaxed. Choose candles with high-grade quality oils, as opposed to synthetics. The smell will linger for longer.

D is for... DREAMING

It’s no secret that a good night’s sleep will set the tone for the next day, and you need all the energy you can get. Write down your worries and try to empty your mind.

E is for... EXFOLIATION

Nothing beats a good scrub, and rubbing away dry skin can be strangely therapeutic. You’ll instantly feel more relaxed with buffed smooth skin.

F is for... FOOD

While it's tempting to reach for the junk food, what we eat can have a direct impact on our state of mind. A sugar crash can cause your mood to drop from high to low in an instant. Save the sweet treats for special occasions, savouring them once in a while rather than every day.

G is for... GRATITUDE

Pregnancy can be overwhelming, and focusing on the positives allows us to take back control of our anxieties. Chase away negative thoughts by taking a moment to write down everything you’re looking forward to over the coming months.

H is for... HERBAL TEA

Cutting down the caffeine is a must in pregnancy, and camomile tea is a great way to unwind before bed. Easing headaches and soothing the stomach, a few sips can also help to ease anxieties.

I is for... IMAGINATION

Many believe in the law of attraction, whereby if you imagine positive thoughts then they will happen to you. If you’re struggling to relax, try to steer away from negativity, embracing the imminent excitement of your new arrival.

J is for... JOURNEY

When is the last time you travelled? While faraway foreign lands may be off the cards, even a little trip to a nearby town can help us escape the everyday routine. You’ll soon be seeing the sights with a pram in tow, so take this time to tick a few to-dos off your list.

K is for... KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON

This old saying is an affirmation that many of us use without even realising. This phrase can help you save face during the hard times, reminding you that there are much more important tasks at hand.

L is for... LAUGHTER

Whether you scour the internet for cat videos or call a loved one for a chat, steer away from the doom and gloom and make sure you regularly catch up with friends and family.

M is for... MEDITATION

Meditation and regulating your breathing pattern can really help you to focus. If you’re a beginner, lay flat on the floor and focus on your breathing. Listen as air goes in and out. Dedicate 20 minutes to this each day and you’ll soon feel the benefits.

N is for... NAPPING

Don’t underestimate the power of a quick nap, helping you feel refreshed when you may only be halfway through the day. Pregnancy is hard work and shouldn’t be underestimated - make sure you put your feet up at every opportunity.

O is for... OPEN HANDEDNESS

We often overlook the positive feeling you get when you're doing good for others. Your time and energy may be lacking, but why not send a quick text to let a friend know you’re thinking of them?

P is for... PLANNING

Have you ever made a bucket list? There are often so many things we want to do in life, but never get the chance to as we’re stuck in a routine. Life is about to get much busier once your baby arrives, so why not plan some little adventures to keep you busy in the meantime.

Q is for... QUIET

Turning life’s volume down can instantly clear our minds, helping you to unwind as you forget the rush of everyday life. Dedicate a room of your home to peace and quiet, and you’ll instantly feel calm every time you set foot in there.

R is for... REFRESHING SURROUNDINGS

A touch of interior design magic can give you a new space in which to relax and unwind. Treat your home like a blank canvas, and create the perfect space to set the scene for relaxation.

S is for... SOUNDS

Sometimes we need to relax, but we don’t have the time to take ourselves away from our daily duties. Why not try a meditation soundtrack? The sound of birdsong or even heavy rain might just help you find a new rhythm.

T is for... THERAPY

Why not visit your local spa? Most have mum-to-be packages with pregnant women in mind. A relaxing foot massage could be just the trick after a long week at work.

U is for... UNWINDING

Ditch the gadgets, and stop bringing work home with you. It can be hard to unwind after a long day but curling up in comfort can definitely help. Change into your pyjamas and set the tone for the rest of the evening.

V is for... VANITY DIGITAL DETOX

Ever get the urge to post a ‘humble brag’ on Facebook? Don’t! You don’t need to tell other people how chilled out you are in order to feel that way. In fact, logging onto social media definitely isn’t going to relax you. Take a break from the online world instead.

W is for... WALKING

Don’t just let your mind wander. Walking around can instantly help clear your subconscious. Walking is a great safe exercise for mums-to-be, and it's an ideal way to make sure that you're staying active throughout your pregnancy.

X is for... XOXO

Handwriting is the perfect way to relax and heal the mind, whether you actually post your letter or not. A letter to your future self is an incredible way to focus the mind on what you’d like to achieve. In five years’ time you’ll have transitioned through the newborn years, past the terrible twos, and your baby will be starting school. In years to come you’ll be able to read the letters back and see how far you’ve come.

Y is for... YOGA

Yoga helps to ease tension in the body that could be built up by anxiety. Why not have a look for prenatal classes near you?

Z is for... ZEN
