My week so far: Myleene Klass' blog
My week so far…
25th April – 1st May, 2009
As usual I’ve had a busy week! Last weekend kicked off with a trip to see The Tweenies on stage in Wimbledon with my daughter Ava. This was very exciting for me because I’ve never taken Ava to anything like this before and I wasn’t sure her attention span was going to last, but I needn’t have worried - she loved it. Afterwards we had a meet and greet with The Tweenies. This was hilarious as we’ve only ever had meet and greets with pop bands backstage, but The Tweenies were something else; Ava and I were star struck!
Ava was wearing her new pink check dress from the Baby K range, which is about to hit the shops and of course, seconds before we were about to meet the Tweenies, whilst I was looking away, she managed to find a vanilla ice cream someone had left behind, drop it down her dress, socks and shoes, drop it onto my shoes and wipe it everywhere. Luckily the dress could be wiped clean, but a few of The Tweenies got sticky ice cream kisses!
On Monday... I was filming for my series Ten Years Younger, which basically involved being on a city farm and filming farmer’s wives (to know more you’ll have to watch the series!). I brought Ava with me, which was fantastic because once we’d finished filming she got to hang out on the farm. She turned her nose up at Llamas and snubbed the cows, choosing instead to become obsessed with the farmyard cat. She followed him around all day! We then moved on to filming at the Salvador Dali exhibition, which was fantastic and Ava adored working her way around the room checking out all the pictures.
I’ve realised that Ava likes to work at her own speed. There is no point trying to make a 22 month old hurry up, Ava goes at Ava’s pace and if this means it takes an hour getting to the park, so be it!
On Tuesday... I pre-recorded my classic FM Weekend Breakfast Show that goes out on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Because they go on air between 7-9am it’s great I get to pre-record them. Imagine getting up at 5.30am to be on air if I’d been up with Ava all night! Oh and I’m really looking forward to the Classical Brit awards taking place at the Royal Albert Hall on the 14th May.
On Tuesday afternoon... I went to a friend’s birthday party, which involved thirty toddlers in one room. I can report that it was BONKERS! Ava coveted an entire plate of raspberries and refused to share them with anyone else…
On Thursday... I worked from 7am to 7pm at Mothercare HQ designing the Baby K Spring/Summer 2010 range. (I know, I know, Summer 2010 seems ages away doesn’t it, but it's essential for the collection that we work this far in advance). Without giving too much away we’re using lots of strong block colours on the range and we’re really excited about the boys range. The current Baby K boys collection is selling quicker than the girls range which is fantastic as I know my friends with sons always complain that boys clothes just aren’t interesting enough. When I showed my friends who have sons the collection they were very impressed, Lauren Laverne (I am godmother to her son Fergus) has already started asking when she can get her hands on the Baby K collection!
Although my day at Mothercare is long I’ve really enjoyed the design process. I get a lot of inspiration from catwalks, but also from my travels. I’m constantly looking to see what babies from different countries are wearing as this really inspires me. As well as designing the Baby K clothes range for Mothercare, I’m also working on the toy section, designing toy blocks, mini pianos and books all under the Baby K Orchestra title. I’ve also moved into the home and travel area where I’m designing a new range for the nursery. All I can say is that there won’t be too much beige, blue or pink! In fact, we’re using lots of mix and match colours and we’re doing reversible bedding so you can have loads of colours in your baby’s nursery! I'm really excited about this collection and I know you're going to love it.We don’t put all the Baby K collection out in the shops, we stagger parts of the collection so look out for the pink check dress (the one Ava got ice cream all over), the little black dress with broderie anglaise and the swing jacket – all out in Mothercare very soon.
I know lots of you have been asking about our Baby K change bag, because it is so
unisex and unlike most change bags on the market, it isn't flowery or sporty! We estimate that it will be in Mothercare stores by early June, so not long to wait!My week ahead:
I’m off to LA tomorrow with Ava for meetings (three a day – phew!) and I’m working for CNN. Hopefully I’ll find some time to take Ava to a water park or two! Am I worried about Swine Flu? Of course I am, but I don’t think we should panic, we should just try to live our normal lives. I’ll be washing Ava’s hands and mine constantly and packing the antibacterial gels into my already crammed suitcase!
