Nifa, gurgle.com editor's February wishlist...

My house is freezing, the children have permanently snotty noses and we’re all aching for Spring. It’s not all bad though, I’ve been to lots of exciting events with my kids recently. The Disney VIP event in the Disney Store was amazing and so was Puffin Live – a look at all the new children’s books being published by the lovely people at Penguin, Puffin and Ladybird in 2012. I’m most excited about Emma Thompson’s next instalments of the Peter Rabbit series (classic and witty all in one book). I’ve also done a bit of detoxing this month so all I can think about are Cadbury’s Crème Eggs… Here are my picks of best products and events in February.

The Toy Show
The gurgle.com team visited the Toy Show at Olympia and got a sneak preview of all the new toys coming out in 2012. These are some of the things I was most impressed with:

Skoot (£39.99)
Skoot is a suitcase that looks like a little Vespa scooter children can ride. It comes in pink and baby blue and looks adorable. It’s sure to get admiring glances at the airport as well as keeping your children entertained and clothes packed away neatly inside. Coming soon from Worlds Apart...

Tomy: The Magical Night Night Pooh (£29.99)
We all fell in love with the magical Night Night Pooh, an interactive bedtime toy which plays lullabies and soothes children to sleep. Plus children can blow out the candle nightlight when it’s time to go to sleep. We were totally charmed by this at the Toy Show and thought it was a reassuring and calming nightime toy for little ones. Find out more...

LeapPad wins awards!
You may be familiar with LeapFrog’s LeapPad, which is a personalised tablet aimed at children aged between four and nine, which incorporates an on-board camera and video camcorder and offers a library of over 100 games, apps and videos.  This year the LeapPad has won two prestigious honours, “Toy of the Year” and “Lifestyle Toy of the Year,” by the Toy Retailer Association during the British Toy & Hobby Association’s annual awards ceremony held in London on January 24 – well done LeapPad! New products and events that have caught my eye....

Kiddylicious

Children need to eat healthy snacks, just so they can keep up their busy, active lifestyles! So parents are always looking for healthy ways to keep their children refuelled. Kiddylicious have brought out Fruit Crisps (in Apple, Banana and Pineapple flavour) and Fruit Wriggles  (made of wriggly fruit strings) which are made of the finest fruit and provide one of the recommended five a day portions of fruit. Yum Yum my kids loved the Fruit Crisps… http://babylicious.co.uk/home

Disney On Ice
You can’t really fight against the magic of Disney and all children fall in love with it at some point in their childhood.  Why not treat them to a Disney on Ice performance, which combines Ice Skating and a spectacular show with their favourite Disney characters. Check out Disney’s site to see when the new show Princesses and Heroes, which is travelling around the UK, is on near you. http://disney.go.com/disneyonice/

The Detox Kitchen
At present only for those living in the capital – The Detox Kitchen will deliver three meals a day (plus snacks) to your house so you can properly detox without worrying what you should be cooking. I did it for a week and enjoyed delicious food, felt energised and amazing and a bonus for all mums – I slept really well all week. Cutting out caffeine was hard for me (as was alcohol) but well worth it for how I felt on day five. Someone even asked me if I’d been on holiday… As long as you are not breastfeeding or pregnant it’s great to do a detox every now and again to give your body a treat. For anyone thinking of potty training in the coming months, check out My Carry Potty. A genius idea which enables your little ones to go to the toilet whenever they need to in My Carry Potty, which then snaps shut and hygienically keeps its contents secure until you get home and can empty in the loo.

I am not at all convinced by that potty lol! Is it just me but would you really want your kid carrying a poo round all day in it? I would also worry that the child would work out how to open it or forget to lock it :/ And what happens if they want to use it again during the day trip? My son has a horror of going on dirty toilets!! With a cheap plastic affair you can easily tip a wee into a bush or the grass, and tip a poo down a public toilet or with a travel potty it is ready bagged up,so why would you want to seal it into the potty? I think the appeal for the toddler lies in the handle more than anything and that doesn't seem hygenic at all!!
