Silver Cross brings back it's Wayfarer with a very modern twist

Devolped alongside a mother's group, Silver Cross have brought back their old favourite, the Wayfarer, but it's been completely re-invented and redeveloped with pops of colour for the seat and hood and lots of practical features parents will love. It's an update of the old 1980's design but it retains the classic features that worked so well back in the 80's, such as the large shopping basket below and the striking rectangular shaped chassis.

The Wayfarer is a complete travel system that weighs in at a tiny 6.5kg. It really is very small and light (it has been tested to fit into the boot of a little Toyota Yaris..) With a base unit, carrycot, chassis, car seat adaptors and a cup holder included in it's £395 price tag, we're sure parents will be very happy indeed.

Gurgle mums love: the one hand recline system that makes it easy with a sleeping tot. Also the pushchair can be folded completely in it's forward facing seat mode- very handy.

One for the dads: the Wayfarer handles extend for use up to the height of a 6"5 dad!

Four years in the making, Silver Cross have developed the Simplicity car seat and Isofix base to compliment the Wayfarer. Both are not only easy for parents (and grandparents!) to use, they are both rigourously safety checked to be one of the safest on the market.

Available from spring 2013 – the Wayfarer base carrycot and pushchair, £395, hood and apron pack, £100, and Simplicity car seat, £130, are all available from Silver Cross.

National Storytelling Week- 26th January

We know that you don't need an excuse to read to your tots, but with National Storytelling Week coming up on the 26th January, we thought it a good time to update your collection of books or try something new. Here's a fab way to begin a love of books for tiny babies with the Wondercube. Inspired by one mum's frustration as her child constantly pulled all the wet wipes out of the packet, classic tales like Goldilocks and the Three Bears are brought to life in 12 material squares, that pull out of the Wondercube, each one with a different sound or feel that can be pulled apart and put back together in any order. There are lots of different stories, numbers, or even the alphabet available to go with the Wondercube. How wonder-ful.

Wondercube, £17.99, Goldilocks filler and storybook, £12.99,

Lion King Autism performance

In a first for London’s West End, an autism-friendly performance of Disney’s The Lion King is taking place on Sunday 14th April, 2013, at the Lyceum Theatre. The National Autism Society has worked together with Disney to create a friendly atmosphere, with designated quiet and activity areas, and staff that are trained autism experts. Adjustments have been made to the performance itself with a reduction of some of the loud sounds and strobe lighting. The cast of The Lion King and the front of house staff have also been given training to understand the needs of children and adults with autism.

To help make this performance accessible to all, the owners of the Lyceum Theatre have agreed to waive their usual booking fees. A dedicated website has been set up to book tickets for the performance, which start at £39.50 for the stalls.

Disney cafe at Harrods

Whether you have a mini Cinderella, or a Buzz Lightyear, the Disney Cafe at Harrods is a real treat for little ones. With tiny screens with all the favourite Disney movies being played, and a Big Ben that chimes every half an hour when it's storytime, it's really good fun. If they really wanted kids to tuck in though, it might have been a good idea to name the food after some of the much loved characters.. we're thinking Lightening McQueen mini cheeseburgers followed by a Tinkerbell Knickerbocker Glory...

Rotten apple

Parents need to be more vigilant, according to latest reports, as children are managing to clock up hundreds of pounds worth of purchases on iPhones and iPads. Many apps for children only allow you to get to the next level by ‘purchasing’ it, and it’s very easy for a tiny tot to press ‘yes’. With all the amazing Apps out there for children, make sure you have your in-app purchase button ‘disabled’ or you might be hit with a rather large bill from Apple.

To turn off your in-app purchases (IAP) on an iPhone, go to Settings, tap General, then Restrictions, and then set an unlock code. Also, scroll down to the In-App Purchases switch and slide to off.

Have a look at our article Brave World Baby as we investigate the pros and cons of touchscreen technologies for tots.

A dynamic new pushchair by 4moms

Designed for babies 6 months and older, this new stroller is packed with lots of delicious elements that has got everyone at talking.

This really is a dynamic pushchair. It folds and unfolds using it's own generated power so gone will be the days of struggling to fold the buggy in the supermarket car park. The seat is fully adjustable and has handy pockets on the back for all the little things you might need (wet wipes.. muslins..).

Dad's will love: the fact you can buy a phone charging USB kit that fits onto the handlebars..

Gurgle mums love: the generators in the pushchairs rear wheels that power a digital display to show how far you've walked- great for keeping fit on those walks round the park. Running lights on the front wheels light your way if you're out after dark too.

The 4moms Origami pushchair is suitable from birth (when purchased with a carrycot)

Elvis Presley was a mummy's boy

He slept in the same bed with his mother, Gladys, until he reached puberty. Up until Elvis entered high school, she walked him back and forth to the school gates every day and made him take along his own knives and forks so that he wouldn't catch germs from the other kids. Gladys never let young Elvis go swimming or do anything that might put him in danger. The two of them also conversed in a strange baby talk that only they could understand.

Broccoli that tastes like sugar

Tesco's are stocking a new supersweet broccoli grown by a Scottish farmer (we mums love him already) - aimed at children who won’t touch the green stuff. The broccoli actually tastes like sugar and is said to be tender and less bitter than normal broccoli, with a sweet stalk. Teatime may be less of a battle with these new florets.
