Is this the car seat of the future?

Volvo unveiled a new car safety seat concept for children yesterday that could completely re-imagine how little ones travel in cars in the future.

The Excellence Child Seat Concept replaces the front passenger seat with a rear facing child car seat. The space-age seat swivels to face outwards to make it easier to get the child in and out of the car, and its position means you keep an eye on and eye contact with the baby whether you're in the back seat or driving.

The seat also has several storage areas for nappies and wipes, is made of wipe-clean leather (for those mucky hand prints) and has cup holders that can keep milk warm or cool. The designers are also hoping to keep the weight of the removable seat under 5kg.

The seat is a modification of the recently unveiled Volvo XC90 Excellence as a way for parents to be able to adapt their car to their changing lifestyles with minimum modification to the car itself. At the same time it aims to provide the best driving experience for parents and babies, while keeping the little one as safe as possible.
