How your height affects your pregnancy
It makes sense that your height and genes are going to influence how big your baby is – but did you know your height could determine the length of your pregnancy?
A report has found shorter women have shorter pregnancies, smaller babies and also a higher risk of giving birth prematurely.
The report, published in the Public Library of Science Medicine, has shown that as well as your genes affecting your baby's birth weight and length, your height is also an important factor in influencing the womb environment, regardless of which genes you're passing on. The womb environment is influenced by how tall mum is, and that is what directly affects how long your pregnancy will be.
The study of 3,485 Nordic women and children found that every centimetre of extra height increased the length, weight and gestational age of their newborns.
