How many children have their own iPad?
A third of pre-school children have their own iPad or tablet – and a quarter of those under three.
A study has found that in households that have tablets, 31 per cent of children under five have their own.
The 2,000 children under five surveyed use it for an average of one hour 19 minutes every weekday, often without supervision – and it's even longer on the weekend. More than a third of pre-schoolers are using their tablet on their own – a risky business when they can rack up huge bills without realising (one in 10 children have accidentally made an in-app purchase).
Six per cent of children have seen content that made them feel uncomfortable, and nearly 10 per cent have been exposed to content that made parents uncomfortable. Parents said they don't always use safety settings and weren't aware children can get online using some apps.
Children's favourite apps were:
- CBeebies (Playtime and Storytime)
- Angry Birds
- Talking Tom
- Peppa's Paintbox
- Temple Run
- Candy Crush Saga
- Toca Boca
