Are 'smart' pregnancies the future?

Would you want the details of your pregnancy test synced to your phone?

One of the main headline-grabbers in this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) was the first digital pregnancy test that syncs to an app via bluetooth.

Pregnancy test company First Response announced the test at the show this week. The First Response Pregnancy Pro sticks works in conjunction with the app, which helps you monitor the days you’re most fertile.

Because we often use multiple pregnancy test to detect the hCG hormone, found in your wee when you’re pregnant, spotting the hormone early can allow you to know if you’re pregnant sooner and initiate prenatal care as close to conception as possible.

The app itself has articles, tips and resources, and even videos to distract you while you wait those three minutes for your test results.

It looks like it’s going to cost twice as much as a normal pregnancy test, even though like all other pregnancy tests it’s one-use, although the app itself is free.

It’s not exactly rocket science to use a pregnancy test, but if you’re not up on your reproductive cycle and prenatal care then the menstrual cycle and pregnancy tracking features could come in useful, as well as the prompts about which questions to ask the doctor and appointment reminders.
