My new collection for Mothercare, Little Bird by Jools, comes alive
Wow it’s been quite a month. Easter seemed to fly by this year, or perhaps it’s because I really love the school holidays with the girls and I think I dread going back to school as much as they do! I always remember that ‘Sunday feeling’ from when I was little and Sundays in our house seem to follow the same theme from when I was young. We used to have boiled eggs for tea with fruit buns and there was always a sudden panic to get last minute homework done. Everyone had a long bath with lots of scrubbing and clipping ready to look super smart for Monday morning and we’d have our hair blow dried in front of The Muppet Show. It’s exactly the same Sunday ritual now, although The Muppets have been replaced with Peppa Pig or Dancing on Ice!
It seems to be non-stop in our house at the moment with the children in and out the house so much (especially with the incessant rain), we might have to install a revolving door! Poppy and Daisy are head-on into their summer school activities so their world is all about rounders, athletics, ballet and climbing trees (lucky them!) And we are about to launch Little Bird by Jools, our new Mothercare collection wooohoooo!
I’m so excited to be able to finally reveal the name to you… hope you like it. We just had our press day last week where we could finally show the awaiting selected press our treasured collection.
I was so nervous about the press launch as I’m not super confident and felt very daunted at the idea of having to meet with journalists, showing and talking them through the range. We have been working on this for over a year now and to actually get to show the outside world felt so very personal. I really love every little bit of the collection and was so proud to finally show it off but of course, I was also worried about what the reaction would be from the press.
The fab Mothercare girls had set up the studio with what can only be described as a mock-up of Petal’s or Buds’ nursery! The cot was piled with our embroidered sheets and quilts and the baby grows, pyjamas and sleepwear were hung in the little wardrobe. All the clothes were placed on a special rail and interspersed amongst all the bright colours were gorgeous sweet pea flowers and large images of the mini models dressed in Little Bird by Jools clothes. To top it all off, scattered amongst everything were vintage furniture, books and retro toys - ‘Fisher Price telephone anyone’!? It looked amazing.
So with a sleepless night and plenty of rescue remedy for Dutch courage we greeted our journalists with nervous excitement. I shouldn’t have worried because Little Bird by Jools went down brilliantly. It was lovely to be able to talk openly about the collection and be able to express my passion and love for it - we all felt so proud to show it off. Everyone who saw it seemed genuinely enthused by it and really seemed to get what we were trying to do. They all loved the nostalgic feel of the range, especially the nursery and toddler bedding as we have used lots of beautiful soft winceyette fabric both on the sheets and the night wear.
Everybody seemed to love the bright colour pallet of the collection with its intrinsic retro old-fashioned feel and all the teeny details which you find on all the items. I love the little toadstool shiny poppers and the little bird on the bottom of the tights - very cute!
So fingers crossed that they all went away loving the Little Bird by Jools collection and excited to write about it.
I personally can’t wait to see Bud and Petal running around in some of the clothes themselves. I especially know that Petal would love the little flower print dress with Peter Pan collar and Buds would look so sweet in the soft green thin needle cords. I best hurry up before Buds gets too big to fit into the super soft snow white, towelling baby grows with little round collars.
I have tried to pick a favourite item from the collection but have found it really difficult! I really love the little off-white Broderie Anglaise shirt, as I know it will go with lots of Petal’s clothes. What I am also proud of is what amazing value the individual pieces are; some of my favourites being around £12 which is hopefully fulfilling the goal I wanted to achieve with Little Bird and Mothercare: to bring beautiful yet affordable clothes to parents.
Well that’s a little reveal - feels so good to be able to tell you all about it now. Will keep you updated on all the exciting things that happen between now and when the Little Bird by Jools collection is available to buy in Mothercare – not long to go now!
Let’s hope the weather changes and the sun makes a much needed appearance, it’s just what us parents and our children desperately need now. It was a real treat to have this little extra bank holiday Monday and as a promise we took the kids to the local fair, despite the fact that it was raining and wellies were in abundance. But we had such fun, surprisingly Petal loved the dodgems and whizzed around with daddy at break neck speed avoiding the inevitable bashings! Buds loved the slides when we all went down together on our mats holding hands, although I happened to be the only one screaminggggggg!
So until our next holiday in June, (the biggie of the year) it’s back to school for all of us boo hoo!!! And I have a jubilee party to organise… I’m thinking of dressing the children up in fancy dress, because I remember the last jubilee party I was at: I was four years old and my mum dressed us up for the occasion. My big sister Nathalie was the royal cup and my middle sister Lisa and I were the nominated flag wavers and crown bearers - very patriotic! So I intend to re create that wonderful memory with my girls and Bud so that hopefully they will go on to share it one day with their families. So here we go again, time to get out the craft box…
Much love Jools x
