Jools Oliver's blog: It's autumn time
It's been a month now since the launch of Little Bird in Mothercare, it's been such an exciting time, all the hard work has been worth it...
So it’s been just over a month since the exciting launch of Little Bird and I still can’t believe the collection is actually gracing the shelves of Mothercare. I feel so very proud, especially as we’ve had a great response so far. It’s been amazing to see little people running around in Little Bird or Little Bird bags hanging off pram handles; not that I have been hiding out in Mothercare spying or anything!
But no time to relax and enjoy fully as we are straight back into full on creative mode having meetings left, right and center for Spring Summer 2013 and yesterday we even started thinking about Autumn Winter 2013. The good news is that some new Little Bird pieces for autumn hit the shops and as it’s feeling distinctly autumnal I suddenly can’t wait to get Buds into the super soft dark green cords and chunky knit cardi, but will have to wait until the new items are added in the middle of October - watch this space!"
We had a really exciting opportunity at the end of August to have a Little Bird stand at Jamie’s Big Feastival, which is his annual two day festival where fantastic food stands alongside eclectic and vintage stalls all surrounded by some great music. There was an old fashioned fairground, which the girls loved, especially as they won a toy on the coconut shy and we all loved the kid’s tent. Maybe because the real celeb in our household was there – the infamous Peppa Pig!
Mothercare did a fab job setting up the Little Bird tent and giving it a distinct festival edge with little Mothercare multi-coloured wellies sat alongside the Little Bird toadstools and nursery bedding. I had a chance to sell a few bits myself and work alongside two lovely girls from the Oxford and Slough branches who had been drafted in to spread the word that Little Bird had landed! It was a fabulous weekend with lots of positive feedback from mums, dads and kids alike who all seemed to love it, especially the Little Bird rainbow badges! I can’t wait to do it all again next year where it will hopefully be bigger and better - will have to get Pop and Daisy working behind the stall. Pops had an idea that she could do story time for all the little ones whilst Daisy taught some gymnastics, so we will have to see!
The new school term has defiantly drawn a line under summer and we celebrated little Bud’s second birthday last weekend. The sun shone the whole day so we decided to have a picnic (probably the last one for a few months) and took him to our local miniature railway, as being a typical boy he loves a steam train! Actually the novelty hasn’t worn off that we have a boy; I’ve never seen so many diggers, tractors, screwdrivers and saws in a pile at any one time!! He now has one little trunk in the playroom clearly labeled BUDDY’S TOYS, which sits in amongst a pink room filled with…well pink!
I’m looking forward to the coming months as the night’s draw in and we celebrate Halloween, firework night and yippee my birthday! But for now I have to concentrate on thinking up some super cool prints for our long sleeved tees so my head is in retro 80’s vintage styles for inspiration. Will keep you posted
Lots of love Jools xxxx
