You are 24 weeks pregnant
Week twenty-four is an exciting week because from now on your baby will have a chance of surviving outside of the womb if she arrives early. Your baby’s hearing is developing all the time and she can now hear sounds outside the uterus and from inside your body. She can hear your voice too, so talk to her as much as you can.
This week you may notice you keep knocking things over, stubbing your toes or wobbling slightly as you walk. The reason for this is that your centre of gravity has changed because your uterus, baby and therefore most of your weight is focused on the middle of your body.
As your body starts to change and adapt to your growing baby, you may notice stretch marks slowly appearing on your lower abdomen and sometimes your breasts. Stretch marks are an unfortunate part of pregnancy and whilst some lucky women don't have them at all, most will have a few marks.
Preventing stretch marks
The best way to tackle stretch marks, even if they have already started to develop, is to keep your skin super-hydrated. This means drinking masses of water each and every day and moisturing your body with a safe skincare product.
Some women recommend (pure) cocoa butter or almond oil (a base oil for massage), both available cheaply from your local chemist. If you are experiencing itching, try using aloe vera lotion, which is a wonderful cooling remedy. If you have an aloe vera plant, you can break off a spiky leaf and squeeze out the sap inside to rub on the offending area.
Ensure that your diet is good, as the things you put into your body have a big influence on how you look and how your body reacts. Look at our healthy diet for pregnancy section as you must make sure you are taking in vitamins such as Vitamin E, Vitamin C and Zinc amongst others to help keep your skin healthy.
