 Happy 5th Birthday from Gurgle!

Physical Development

It’s exciting see your 5-year-old become a little person rather than a toddler. At this age, children show us a glimpse of the adult they will one day become. While there are a number of factors that contribute to a child's development, there are some universal milestones that come with a child's fifth year. Your child continues to grow, but this is a crucial time for gross and fine motor skills. A 5-year-old's brain is almost the size of an adult's, but will continue to develop for the next 20 years.

Children are like sponges at this age and therefore take everything you say in! Now is a good time to try a language (basic) or develop their artistic or musical skills. Don’t forget your child will probably have a far better memory than you and also be able to understand the more ‘adult’ conversations you have. If you are talking about ‘annoying old auntie Gladys and her yellow teeth’ don’t forget your child will probably quote you word for word so you really have to start being careful what you say.

Social Development

Five-year-olds are creative and enthusiastic problem solvers. They offer progressively more imaginative ideas for how to do a task, make something or solve longer-term or more abstract challenges. As they participate in a variety of new experiences, five-year-olds ask more analytical questions and weigh their choices. They are also more social as they learn new things and prefer activities that involve other children. It will be your child’s 5th birthday at some point in the next few weeks and you are probably very busy organizing a party for your little one.
