I'm Heather - pregnant for the 6th time - and all seems to be going well this time!
Over the past 10 years I've had 2 miscarriages and one molar pregnancy. My son James was born in December 1997 and my daughter Erin in December 2003.
Erin was induced at 37 weeks as, when I was 11 weeks pregnant, her brother was diagnosed as having JMML, a very rare and aggressive form of leukaemia. (There are only around 4 cases of this type of leukaemia per year in the UK).
Erin was induced so that her cord blood could be collected and the stem cells used in an attempt to save James. Unfortunately, he became too sick to undergo the conditioning regime needed pre-transplant and he died on 15th January 2004 shortly after his 6th birthday. Erin was exactly 4 weeks old.
The decision to have another child was a very difficult one. I always wanted two children but didn't want to feel as if I was trying to replace my son. The time finally felt right earlier this year and I fell pregnant straight away :) I've mixed feelings about having another boy but have to hold to the philosophy that the only way to move is forward.
