Hi Sheli. I had exactly this problem with my little girl Kara (she will be 3 tomorrow). She would only poo with a nappy on, and wouldnt do it on the potty or the big toilet. I tried everything, putting an open nappy on the potty, putting a baby wipe in the potty - you name it, we tried it. Nothing worked, and she would insist on having a nappy on, even going and getting one herself from the basket. In the end, I just went with it. I thought she would do it in her own time, and guess what, she did! She did a little poo on the potty one day, and we made a HUGE sing and dance about it, praising her and hugging her etc, and rewarding her with a few sweeties. She then one day said she needed a poo while we were upstairs, so I coaxed her to the big toilet, sat her down on her toilet seat, and waited to see what happened. Low and behold, she produced the goods and we havent looked back since. The nappies are now only used at bed time, and she has no fear of using the toilet at all now for a poo. Once she was using the toilet for both, we put the potties away and its been great - no more smelly nappies (I best our bin men are pleased too!!). I would say just persevere, Jacob will do it when he's ready and so long as you dont make a huge issue out of it, he'll surprise you one day I'm sure. You may have read my earlier post - Kara has now started wetting herself having been dry for ages - any ideas on this one????? Good Luck with Jacob!
Hi Lynne, thanks ever so much for your reply, I will just sit back and wait then, I just had the vision of still having to put him in nappies at 5 years old!!! And also the fact he will hold it until he is at home so that he can have a nappy on, but I guess its not causing any problems so fingers crossed it will click at some point!!! With regards to Kara, to be honest I really dont know, Jacob is my only child and obviously I am experiencing everything for the first time. I have heard though that disrupted routine can have an effect on this sort of thing, but its a bit of a long shot and im sure you have been through all this already!! Sorry I cant be of any help with that one, but good luck!!! Thanks again for your advise on Jacob, really appreciated!!!

Hi ewveryone, this is my first visit to this site. My name is Sheli and my little boy, Jacob, is almost 3 (Jan 2008). Does anyone have any advise on potty training? Jacob has been dry through the day now for over 4 months, however he will not 'poo' unless he has a nappy on! I have tried everything I can think of, he is not affraid of the potty/toilet as he uses them quite gladly for 'wees'. I would appreciate any advise anyone may have.
