Many parents are bound to be a little wary of how much sugar their little angels are consuming.

New research from Bupa reveals nearly half of mums fear their child is addicted to sugar. Stats show a marked gap in parents understanding on hidden sugars.

The research comes as the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) announce that schools and nurseries should run tooth brushing schemes to improve the oral health of children. To showcase the importance of dental health from a young age, Bupa has launched a beautifully designed animated video that is tailor made for children to bring to life the magic of the Tooth Fairy.

The survey of 2,000 mums revealed the following:

Nearly half of mums (46%) are worried their child might be addicted to sugar.

Despite this, 60% of mums admit that they do not regularly look at the nutritional info on food products for their kids.

1/5 even confess their child doesn't have a balanced diet.

43% of mums claim to know how much sugar is in the food their child eats.

93% of mums didn't know a typical fat-free yoghurt contains five teaspoons of sugar.

94% of mums didn't know the average amount of sugar in a typical glass of apple juice is 6.5 teaspoons.

Nearly 1/3 of mums think that as they give their children healthy food, sugar isn't an issue.
