The 'Milton Method' of cold water sterilising - protecting what's precious every day

In simple terms, sterilisation is a term referring to any process that kills germs, such as fungi, bacteria and viruses. Germs are what cause babies and young children to become unwell. Milk, whether from the breast or formula, is an ideal breeding ground for bacteria, so it is very important to properly clean and sterilise all feeding equipment.

Babies have fragile immune systems, especially in the first year of their lives, which means that they are more susceptible to catching germs, which can cause infections and make them poorly. This means that good hygiene habits, including sterilising baby-feeding equipment, is crucial.

The 'Milton Method' of cold water sterilising is so easy to use! You just use cold tap water and either a cap of Milton Sterilising Fluid or 1 Milton Sterilising tablet, inside a Milton Cold Water Steriliser – it really is that simple!

Once you have made up your cold water solution, you can put any plastic item inside the 5 litre steriliser – bottles, teats, breast pump parts, soothers, weaning spoons, cups, teethers and small toys, and after only 15 minutes they will be sterile and free from harmful germs.

You can leave all items inside the sterilising solution until you need them, as the solution will last for 24 hours – during this time you can take things out and put them back in as many times as you like, and they will always be sterilised.

Just wash your hands well before removing the items, and you can take them out with your hands.

The Milton Method is a perfect way for busy parents to always have a sterilising solution handy – just keep the steriliser on the side and you can keep putting things in and out as you use them. Even better, there is no need to rinse items before you give them to baby, as Milton is tried and tested to be safe – just take the items out and give them a shake over the sink before use.

Milton Sterilising Tablets are perfect for taking on holiday, as they are light to carry and 1 tablet with 5 litres of water lasts for 24 hours! The tablets can easily be broken down by ½ or ¼, so you can use whatever size container you have available to you and still create a sterilising solution for your baby's feeding equipment, no matter where you are and no electricity required! You can buy the Milton Cold Water Steriliser and Milton Sterilising Tablets from Mothercare, and join our Milton Mum's community on Facebook for offers, competitions and top tips!
