One million children have never seen a dentist

One million children have never seen a dentist

Over 700,000 children under the age of eight have had at least one filling – and one million have never been to the dentist.

Teeth brushing

Only a quarter of children under the age of eight brush their teeth for the recommended time (two minutes). 57 per cent of parents did not take their children to the dentist until after their child's first birthday when children should ideally see their dentist when their first tooth comes through, around six months.

On top of this, 20 per cent incorrectly believe that fruit smoothies and sippy cups are good for their children's teeth and nearly one third were unaware of free NHS treatments available for children such a fluoride varnishing, which helps protects tooth enamel.

Dental group My Dentist has launched a new nationwide Kids Club to provide parents with information and ensure the best possible start to children's dental health.
