Hydrolysed baby formula doesn't reduce risk of allergies

This formula doesn’t reduce a child’s risk of eczema and allergies, according to new research

Babyfeeding

Previous research has claimed hydrolysed baby formula, which is treated with heat to break down the milk proteins, can reduce the chance of babies with a high pre-existing risk of developing allergies and eczema.

However, new research published in the British Medical Journal today (9 March), found no significantly reduced risk amongst babies taking hydrolysed formula.

The trials compared different hydrolysed formulas, or compared them with breast milk, and found no evidence that babies on these formulas have any less chance of developing eczema or milk allergy.
