Treating baby colic and reflux

Yes, babies cry, but what if your baby is bawling a lot? Colic and reflux are common causes, but what's the difference? Helen Foster explains

‘It’s not your fault they’re crying, and it doesn’t mean you’re a bad mum,’ says Rachel Collins, aka The Happy Mummy Health Coach (rachelcollins.co.uk). ‘Many things will happen in your child’s life that you can’t fix, but your job is to love and support them through it. This your first example. Accepting this can help many mums.’

With colic, when crying often occurs at the same time each day, Rachel suggests arranging to have someone there. 'Their job is not to try to soothe the baby, just to be there if you need to have some time out,’ she says.

You can also call support group Cry-sis (08451 228 669; 9am-10pm). Chair Jan Bullen says, ‘Eat well and get as much as rest as possible. You need to be well to look after your baby.’
