Safety + comfort = happy baby sleep

Cot bumpers have had mixed reviews in the past and knowing what to use and what to avoid can leave new parents in a spin.

Cot bumpers can look great and protect baby against bumps and bruises, as well as preventing trapped limbs between bars of a cot bed. However, many health professionals advice against the use of cot bumpers due to concerns with overheating and suffocation leaving worried parents at a loss a to how best to protect baby with their baby bedding choices.

BreathableBaby was born in 2002 after concerned parents Susan and Dale Waters had a frightening experience with their daughter when her arm became trapped between the cot bed bars. Luckily, they found her in time, but their experience prompted them to develop a safer alternative to a cot bumper.

In the United States, traditional cot bumpers are now banned from sale in many states and major retailers: the only cot bumpers permitted for sale are the BreathableBaby Cot Liners.

The BreathableBaby Cot Liner is made from a soft mesh fabric and utilises a patented 3D cellular 'breathable' core allows maximum air flow inside of fabrics and cannot be compressed. This technical fabric helps to allow temperature regulation and eliminates the risk of suffocation and re-breathing of air. This 3D technology means that as well as being breathable, the liners are cushioned offering parents the much sought after extra protection from knocks and bumps, and keeps babies limbs safely within the cot bed. Plus the beautiful designs and range of colours and themes ensure that a BreathableBaby cot liner is the perfect coordinating addition to any nursery decor.

The traditional BreathableBaby cot liner is fully adjustable to use on standard cots and cot beds, as well as those with solid ends . It is also available in a smaller size which is designed specifically for solid ended cots and cot beds, both available in a range of Mix & Match colours and fashions

To complement this , BreathableBaby now offer coordinating baby bedding. Super Dry fitted sheets , Swaddles, baby Blankets and Toys all of which utilise the same breathable technology and use fabrics similar to technical sports materials which allow air flow and help to keep baby comfortable , dry and at just the right temperature.

The PocketSwaddle is designed to be a fusion between a fitted swaddle and a swaddling baby blanket. The lightweight fabric ensures baby can sleep at a regulated temperature and the simple 'pocket' design makes swaddling a breeze for any new parent.

The 'On the Go baby Blanket' provides a safe and snug cover either home or away and is large enough to provide a breathable breastfeeding environment for baby and discreet coverage for mum.

Another area of advise is not to place toys in baby's cot bed due to risk of suffocation and choking. BreathableBaby have developed a range of super cute 'breathable' toys, all of which are hypoallergenic, machine washable and fast drying and complete the nursery set.

Available at Amazon, Argos, BabiesRUs, Kiddicare and many leading independent nursery retailers.
