Know your emergency first aid

Know your emergency first aid

The British Red Cross launches its 'First Aid Rapped Up' campaign today to accompany the free baby and child first aid app.

Red Cross

Almost two-thirds of parents (65 per cent) wish they knew some first aid skills, and most parents wouldn't feel confident in knowing what to do in first aid emergencies.

Every day, 58 children in the UK will go to A&E after being accidentally poisoned, which is addressed in the campaign's first video aimed at making parents aware of how to react in the case of their child being poisoned.

More than half of parents don't know how to recognise or treat their child if they swallowed a harmful substance.

The campaign hopes to educate parents in the UK to know how to deal with everyday injuries and accidents, like burns and seizures.

Gurgle blogger Jools Oliver is backing the campaign, "when Petal was younger I caught her holding a bottle of bleach. It wasn't open, but I had no idea if she had drunk any and made her drink milk as a precaution.

"Thanks to doing the British Red Cross baby and child first aid course I now know that is the wrong thing to do."
