As an official announcement from Royal Kensington confirms that the new royal baby has been named Prince Louis Arthur Charles, we look back at the top five regal names that were pipped to the post.
Huge spectulation has rose over the name Albert with reports claiming that a suspected leak came from the Royal family's official website. Site visitors landing on the URL www.royal.uk/prince-albert were met with a page saying 'Access denied: You are not authorised to access this page.' This also appeared when visitors viewed pages for Prince George and Princess Charlotte, but it seems this was a very clever red herring!
Arthur was also a popular first name choice for the new Prince following a resurgence of vintage names. Just like Prince William and Prince George, Prince Louis now shares middle name the middle name Arthur with this father and brother.
After a flurry of bets were placed on James post Prince Louis birth, the odds on this name choice came in at 9/1.
Odds on William and Kate naming the new royal baby Philip stood at 12/1, with many beliveing that it would be a kind tribute to Prince William's grandfather and the Queen's husband, the Duke of Edinburgh.
According to Bookmaker, Ladbrooks, Thomas surfaced as as a strong candidate against the more traditional royal names with the odds rising to 20/1. Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: "Prince Thomas of Cambridge does have a nice ring to it, even if the name doesn't immediately spring out as a traditional, regal name. However, Kate and Wills are modernising the Royal Family, so it wouldn't be a huge surprise to see them opt for a 'normal' name."
It seems that Jessica was right to predict that William and Kate would choose modern name, but it seems even she couldn't predict how modern they would go!
