Go down to the woods today and you'll find all the inspiration you need to transform your little ones room into their very own enchanted forest
If you are a fan of the book Where the Wild Things Are by the late Maurice Sendak, you will be all over autumn’s enchanted forest trend for children’s interiors. Sendak loved the way kids moved seamlessly from fantasy to reality and his tale is all about bringing the outside in.
So brace yourself for a host of woodland inspired pieces and channel the spirit of your own inner wild things as designers deliver a woodland fantasy with bells on. ‘The woodland interior theme is such a strong trend because it offers so much adventure and fun,’ says Peanut & Pip owner Becky Browne whose own small children can’t get enough of books including The Gruffalo and We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. ‘Little children love baby animals. It gives them the chance to connect with nature. The changing seasons are special too, with new things to find each visit, whether it’s blackberry picking, collecting pine cones or sighting a favourite animal.

Scottish designer Donna Wilson’s childhood passion for woodland creatures suffuses her work and extends to giving her wild things names. Stick the Snail, Rudie Raccoon, Wolfie and Peanut are just a few of her knitted creatures she describes as ‘all having their own personalities.’ The latest addition is a wild mushroom called Suki, ‘who likes opera and drinking Scotch whisky.’ This season see graphic drawings of animals all over her ceramic collection for kids and kidults including wolves, foxes, squirrels and rabbits.
