Work could be affecting your ability to conceive

New research suggests that woman who work long hours or lift heavy loads as part of their job may take longer to get pregnant.

The study showed that women who worked more than 40 hours a week took about 20 per cent longer to get pregnant that women who worked between 21 and 40 hours a week. Women who lifted 25-pound loads several times every day also took up to 50 per cent longer to get pregnant than women who did not.

Out of the 1,739 nurses who took part in the study and were trying to get pregnant, about 16 per cent were not able to within one year, and five per cent were still having trouble the year after that. Although other specialists have suggested that women who work longer hours simply don't have the time or energy for sex.

However, frequency of night shifts or the duration of evening work was not shown to affect women's ability to conceive.
