Junk free Halloween themed foods for babies and toddlers

Spooky Halloween playdate

12650 Advertorial Images Pumpkin risotto

Whilst your little ones are still too young to go trick or treating there’s lots of Halloween fun you can have with a playdate at home. So dress your little ones in their Halloween costume, hang up some spooky decorations, create some Halloween inspired food and hand out some junk free treats.

Try these super spooky, and deliciously tasty, snacks and recipes. There’s a ‘Hallowean’ one for babies who are enjoying their first foods - a butternut squash risotto is transformed into a giant ghoul pumpkin face, and a spooky rice cake idea that’s just the trick. For toddlers try this ghoulish take on everyone’s favourite - pizza - plus some creepy bug treats that are actually good for you and your little ones! #SmallWins

For babies

  • Spooky Pumpkin Risotto: use your favourite risotto recipe and add in some roasted butternut squash to give it a beautiful ‘hallowean’ orange colour, stir through some cream cheese and grated cheese, then mash or whizz in a blender to suit your little one's texture requirements. Transfer to a bowl and to create a spooky pumpkin face add a few black olives for the teeth and eyes and some green pepper for a stem.

  • Spooky spider rice cakes: you just need three rice cakes for the body (we used Organix tasty Raspberry & Blueberry Rice Cakes which come with the reassurance of the Organix No Junk Promise), a few blackberries – crushed for painting the spiders’ web and halved for the top of the body - and a few chopped grapes for the crawly legs. Watch the Organix Spooky Rice Cakes video.

For toddlers

  • Ghostly Halloween pizzas: there’s lots of jobs for little chefs to help with on this one! Using your preferred pizza dough recipe make up mini round pizza bases and top with a tasty homemade tomato sauce. Then make your ghostly toppings – simply use a ghost shaped cookie cutter to cut ghost shaped slices of mozzarella (use a large ball), if the slices aren’t big enough, you can use two pieces and they’ll melt together during cooking! Place one or two ghosts on each pizza base, with tiny pieces of black olive for eyes, and scatter a few extra green olive halves.

  • Scary Bug: Goodies mini oaty bites make a great bugs’ body! To decorate, cut two circles from an apple slice for the eyes, and pop half a blueberry on each to finish them off, then cut six small pieces of apple and pop three on each side of the oaty bar for the legs.
