Are you dreaming of sun, sea and sand? Well, we're helping you turn those dreams into a reality mama! So wave goodbye to those winter blues with our round up of the best places to go on a family holiday.

Fethiye, Turkey

The strength of the pound against the Turkish lira makes this transcontinental gem an affordable choice for families seeking sunshine, warm seas and history. There are lots of budget-flight options too, with only a two-hour time difference, so your child can stay up a little later for dinner – and hopefully sleep in…

Hillside Beach Club near Fethiye has three private beaches, watersports, a spa and a baby park for under-threes, plus a baby buffet and all the kit you require. From £1,475 for two adults and one infant, full board with flights via Thomas Cook.

Crete, the Greek islands

The traditional package holiday is enjoying a resurgence thanks to its convenience, cost and Love Island appeal. Tour operators like Thomas Cook and Tui have also upped their game, with a range of new resorts tailored to different travellers and thoughtful family facilities.

Casa Cook Chania is a baby-friendly, boutique hotel in Crete that opens this summer, offering a kids’ club and yoga in idyllic surroundings. From £926 per person for seven nights’ bed and breakfast, including flight.

Kent, England

Once the gateway to France, Kent is now England’s coolest county thanks to its mix of seaside towns, picturesque countryside and the historic cobbled streets of cathedral city Canterbury. Head to Margate for the hipster art scene and Dreamland fun fair, the Kent Downs for windswept walks, and Whitstable for funky shops and good food. But our favourite is dinky Deal, with its quiet Georgian streets, perfect pebbled beach and cafe culture.

Stay at the chic Castle Reach, a tasteful and well-equipped three-bedroom holiday home. From £365 per week, Sykes Cottages.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Every person can find their happy place in this jewel of the Adriatic, and it’s finally taking its place in the spotlight thanks to appearances on the hugely popular Game of Thrones and the Mamma Mia sequel.

The distinctive walled city of Dubrovnik is one of Europe’s finest and offers a combined city and beach break, while the Dalmatian coast boasts picturesque pine forests, quiet coves and great island-hopping opportunities. Valamar has family-friendly resorts across the country, with both a five-star hotel and premium campsite opening in 2019. Seven nights all-inclusive at Valamar Club Dubrovnik for two adults and one infant from £680.

Dundee, Scotland

With a redeveloped waterfront area and vibrant cultural scene, Scotland’s sunniest city has a buzz that belies its compact size. Don’t miss the striking new (and free to visit) V&A Museum which boasts baby- changing facilities on every floor, while Dundee Science Centre will wow curious toddlers with its hands-on exhibits.

Take a trip out on Pirate Boats’ tours of the Tay River for a bit of dolphin spotting, or play ‘pirates’ onboard the RSS Discovery. Stay at Forbes of Kingennie Country Resort in Broughty Ferry, a quirky beach suburb ten minutes from the centre – full of gorgeous shops and places to eat, like Jessie’s Kitchen. Self-catered, two-bedroom lodges from £147 per night.

The Cape region, South Africa

For an adventurous trip of a lifetime, head to The Cape region, where you’ll find world-class wine, stunning scenery and the chance to show your child some of the world’s most magical wildlife.

While the flight is around 11 hours long, plenty of direct and overnight routes are available, and the lack of time difference means zero jetlag. Specialist family-tour operator Bushbaby Travel offers a tot-friendly ten-day tour of Plettenberg Bay, Cape Town and a ‘Big Five’ safari. From £2,070 per adult, £150 per infant under two, plus flights and car hire.

Assignan, France

While the Côte d’Azure gets all the attention, its neighbouring (generally less pricey) region offers unspoilt beaches, quiet, pretty towns and good wine. There are budget flights to Montpellier, and the region is France’s warmest. The Village Castigno hotel in Assignan offers family-friendly rooms, pools and three restaurants. Rooms from £115 per night.
