Hair dye pulled from shelves

A hair dye has been removed from supermarkets after claims it can harm a woman’s fertility and unborn children

Bigen

Bigen hair dye has been pulled from Tesco and Sainsbury’s shelves and recalled after it was discovered to contain an ingredient that can harm a woman’s fertility and unborn babies.

The hair dye was found to contain sodium perborate, a banned ingredient that is ‘toxic if inhaled’.

Women should return the product and ask for a refund and, if concerned about use of the product, are advised to seek medical advice.

A spokesman for the Chartered Trading Standards Institute, which is responsible for recalls in the UK, said: 'Sodium perborate is a prohibited substance under the cosmetic products safety regulations because it can cause harm to fertility and unborn children.'
